We enjoyed our first visit here tremendously.

It’s not a conventional restaurant, but genuine family style Italian. It had multiple courses (I counted 7 including an ice cream sandwich dessert - the only thing that wasn’t made in their kitchen) all of which were excellent quality and flavor. We had a group of 10. The thing about Trattria Calabria is that it’s the menu of choice of the chef. All 6 dinner courses are decided and served by the staff.

Danny is the owner and enjoys interacting with his customers serving, talking, joking, and even poking fun at them from time to time.

A course by course breakdown would be a bit much, but I will say that the bruschetta and eggplant were my 2 favorites of the meal. Having said that everything was amazingly good.

It is a BYOB restaurant, so we brought wine. They have ice water and iced tea.

Reservations are required and if you’re not comfortable with the family style, chef’s choice, you might get made fun of by Danny - then it’s probably not for you. Our group absolutely loved it and we will be back.

We had a fantastic time. The food was great. Old school peasant Italian food per Danny the owner. He serves 7 courses at a very reasonable price. he decides what is going to be served. The mussels , soup, eggplant etc all delicious. Its BYOB and we enjoyed some nice wines. Thanks Danny )

Six of us gathered here last night for a birthday celebration. Dan, the owner, as well as chef, server, cashier, is only open on Saturday evening. There was one other family of 10 gathered at a nearby table. We arrived at 6 and it’s a byob, so enjoyed chatting and a glass of wine before the main event. You don’t know what you’re getting but I can assure you it was all outstanding. Other than the first course, it is all served family style. The first course, soup, was served starting at 630 and was followed by bruschetta and bread, antipasto, mussels, greens and beans, sausage in red sauce, eggplant Parmesan to die for and finally pasta and meatballs. The oohs and aahs from each one of us was a symphony and each of us had our favorite. Payment is in cash, only $35 per person and the bill is presented with tax and 20% gratuity included as well as an ice cream sandwich, a refreshing way to end the night. A must try fun and delicious experience.

What a nice surprise! Out to dinner for my husband's birthday; Danny did not disappoint! Eight course meal; bean soup, bruschetta and bread, antipasto salad, mussels in garlic wine sauce, greens with beans, eggplant parmesan, sausage in sauce and pasta with meatballs! All so good!! Danny and staff were accommodating and welcoming. We felt like we were having Sunday dinner at Grandma's house. Highly recommend!

Talk about hitting the Italian Food Lottery…in Utica!!! One seating at 6PM, no menu, byob, cash only. You eat what Dan serves…and what a character. Seven courses, 35 US Dollars!? excellent homemade Italian food. Call in advance for reservations, no walk ins.

Great meal. 8/10! Danny is the best. If you haven't tried it. Please do. Even bread is baked in house.

The best Italian restaurant in town! You can really tell that they serve homecooked Italian food through the its taste. The service is great and the atmosphere at the place is just so cozy and authentic. Food prices are reasonable since they are really serving fresh food with fresh ingredients.

We went to celebrate our Uncle's birthday this past Saturday. The owner, Dan, was great. It's BYOB and he just brings out good food after good food. We started with a bean soup, then antipasto, then mussels, then broccoli rabe and sausage, then eggplant parmesan, and finally meatballs with macaroni. The price was very reasonable per guest and you felt like you were sitting in your grandparents kitchen. The food was flavorful and there it was good portion sizes for multiple courses. We will definitely be back with our friend group!

My wife and I were blown away by chef Danny. 8 or 9 courses of home cooked Italian food. And when I say home cooked, I mean literally cooked at home. The food is fresh, local ingredients and plentiful. Danny's story is touching and he's a kind soul. It's hard to leave without feeling bonded to the space. The food is not your normal Italian fair. Its the food you'll find on your table if you were a farm worker in Italy. No menu, no drinks. It's 100% chefs choice.Loved the mussels, salads, greens and sausage and eggplant. Oh and garlic bread.
