Tomoni Reviews
My friends and I decided to visit Tomoni after a Japanese chef recommended it as one of his personal favorites in NYC, and I am so glad we took his advice. Standing outside, the restaurant immediately stood out because its sleek, modern facade was such a striking contrast to the surrounding worn-out exteriors. My initial impression was that if a place invests this much care into its presentation, the food is bound to be good. If this spot were located in Manhattan, there would...read full review

Tomoni is a restaurant in NYC that a Japanese chef recommended as one of his personal favorites. Its sleek, modern facade stands out as a striking contrast to the surrounding worn-out exteriors. The interior feels deliberate and well-designed, with rich maroon furniture, deep green brand colors, a playful squiggly logo, displayed vinyl record albums, and tactile texture on the menus and plates. Staff and servers are super sweet, welcoming, warm, friendly and attentive, and the service is quick without making guests feel rushed.
The food is outstanding and fresh, with excellent attention to food quality, preparation, flavor, aroma and interesting presentation. Dishes include the Double Thick-Cut Katsu Don, Cream Udon, Assorted Sashimi, Una-Tama Donburi, Mixed Fry Set, truffle crudo, unagi donburi, cloud udon, potato salad, hand rolls, Hirame truffle crudo, handroll appetizer with uni and torched toro, and A5 Wagyu Donburi. The sashimi is exceptionally fresh without a hint of fishiness, and the eel in the Una-Tama Donburi is perfectly balanced rather than plastered in heavy sauce.
The vibe is welcoming, with laughter and warmth as important as the food itself. The dining area is impeccably clean and well-maintained. Some find it worth driving an hour from Brooklyn, and it may get Michelin recognition soon.
