This place was great too bad it closed down. Me and my family had some great times at this restaurant.

Have been going there for about 20 years but I have noticed this year that the food has gotten worse and tHe cups and utensils are old and stained I'm sorry to say but I will not be going back

I'm a regular here. It's not the greatest of all time, but it's very impressive for the price, and compares well to some pricier Chinese restaurants. Sushi is always fresh.

staff very friendly, service was quick. Drinks are good and place is clean. Nice calm and comfortable place to meet with friends or family. Great lunch hour bite and prices are good especially for the amount of food.

I took a date here on Tuesday December 17, 2019 as "Rice Star" is conveniently next to the Alamo movie theater and has easy parking. We were seated as soon as we walked in. One side was empty the other had guests. The table was spacious and the seats gave us the standard amount of room. The establishment was clean. (I did not go to the bathroom so I can't speak to that). After eating here I can say that the establishment is more of a Chinese food location with a sushi bar then a proper Japanese location. The service was ok...They gave us those noodles with the duck sauce right away. They were good. They would not serve Sake or Wine and didn't explain why...even though it was on the menu. (I am 33 so it wasn't an age problem). Disappointed, I ordered a sprite. They brought me a coke but I am easy going so I took it instead. When I went to order food, the waiter was very unfamiliar with the Japanese side of the menu and it's terminology. The eel/Avocado was good but I have had better and bigger dragon rolls else where and the rainbow roll was less attractive then I am used to seeing. The waiter was confused when I asked if they had "Ikura" which I explained was Salmon Roe. He didn't understand what "roe" was (It is fish eggs) and thought I meant "roll". After that confusion, I asked for Tobiko (flying fish roe) Sashimi instead as I saw it directly on the menu but this brought us to the next step of our confusing encounter of "Sushi VS Sashimi". I clearly asked for Sashimi but he wrote it down as sushi and read it back as sushi as I don't think he knew what sashimi was...so I said sushi would be fine. It was a nice enough piece. The ginger and wasabi were average grade. The soy sauce was fine and low sodium. The sushi came out quickly on a big platter for us to share. It had a liberal amount of eel sauce which impressed me. Some rice flaked off which if you know sushi is a sign that the person who rolled it could imptove their skills. My date ordered chicken Teriyaki and liked it a lot. It came with a sub par salad and miso soup. I did not try the soup so I can't speak to that. I think it was a fair amount of chicken for the price when factoring in the soup/salad. It came out on a sizzling plate which was impressive but the waiter scrambled to place it on the table due to the over sized platter they used for the sushi. That took away from the presentation of the sizzling as well as the 2 reminders that the sizzling plate was hot. When we realized we had to go, I asked for the check and was given it promptly with 2 fortune cookies but they did not come back in a reasonable amount of time so that I could easily pay with a credit card. To resolve this, I just paid in cash so that we could make our movie in time. I would only go again to " Rice Star" if a date/friend wanted to get chinese food before a movie or we were already shopping in that area. Further more I would only order chinese food next time. I have been eating sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese foods for 23 years (since I was 10) and want the staff of a Japanese establishment to know as much or more then I do about the food. (There was no hot towel either like in some high end Japanese establishments). 3/5

They have the best sesame chicken. Not sure how I feel about them microwaving my soup before serving it. But I have been coming here for several years. It's usually never busy and food is pretty good.

I wish I could give it a 0 star. Food was terrible and the delivery person literally wouldn't give my family the food unless we tipped more. Absolutely terrible. If my kids weren't starving, I would of told the delivery person to go back.

Good restaurant with Chinese and Japanese food. The egg rolls are excellent but...i made a mistake. They are not vegetarian. They are made with pork.
