Had the lobster roll today for lunch!! it was amazing!!!! Harbor Hound loves Hilmak!
Their selection was not at all what I expected from a store that specialized in seafood.
They did not have a couple of basic fish types, which I expected to find here.
And what they did have, did not look fresh.
I grew up in the Mediterranean, so I recognize quality.
Very nice people , the seafood is always fresh and they will order you things they might not have in their regular inventory
Local gem 💎 my father took us here when we visited family growing up. Now that I live here, family always wants to go there when in town.
A few months ago I went and they had no lobster bisque though it was prominently on the menu. So today I decided to call first. The market didn’t answer the phone after 2 tries. I called the restaurant to see if the market was open and check to see if they have bisque at market today. I was told yes to both. When my husband went to the market to purchase they didn’t have any again and they said the restaurant can make some but not sure when. This is very disappointing. Under the old ownership there was never a question they had bisque and chowder all the time. Tonight we’re having Red Lobster bisque to go since the seafood market in town isn’t reliable.
Beware!!! Everyone was telling me I had to go to Hilmak market to get a fish sandwich. After paying nine dollars, this is what I got. I ordered a walleye fish sandwich. When I bit into it, it was very rubbery and had like a metallic taste. I opened up my sandwich, and there was very little fillet instead, there was this long piece of dark colored gristle. I about threw up.
Hil-Mak is an excellent market for fresh seafood, but also my go to fish market for takeout lunch!
Take home fresh seafood, or let them fry up your lunch, made to order!
A few of their offerings include fresh Lake Perch, Walleye, Catfish, Haddock, Pollock, Fried shrimp sandwiches and platters in addition to gator bites and other specialty offerings.
My favorite is the fresh lake perch sandwich, or dinner platters, paired with their fried shrimp basket which includes fries.
The Hil-Mak Fish Market is worth checking out.
Stopped yesterday to buy perch to cook at home. Found out they serve lunch, so we went back today to get perch sandwiches. Friendly staff, sandwiches were great. Will definitely stop again while in the area. Thanks!
Went for late lunch today. The food was beyond AMAZING!!! Got jumbo shrimp, fries and hush puppies. My wife got scallops and a perch dinner. This is the place to go when you are craving the best seafood and correctly made. The staff was helpful, kind and knowledgeable. There was so much passion put into our food!! We will be back!!
Super fresh fish!

Food is always great and the workers are always in great moods, one of the best places in Ashtabula!!
I don't like fish that much because of experiences I had growing up but, I. Had a few fish sandwiches from them now and they are consistently pretty good. I trust them
What a great experience . We called first of week for 40lb walleye. Spoke to Adam. We picked it up Saturday n what a great place. Kind n courteous . We will return for sure. Thanks to all who made it happen for us. Sorry for taking your weekly limit. But oh so appreciated!
Delicious seafood!
This is one if my favorite places I'm ashtabula. One of my many old man friends Dave would often buy fried perch and French for lunch or dinner. The French fries are the best and cheaper than any place around. The fish is quality amd would be approved by Mr Truck Driver himself who used to haul fish. Dave and I and sometimes Brian would get dinner ans watch the bi weekly sausage guy videos on YouTube. We were all such good friends I wrote not one but 2 books with Dave in it. My favorite is him and David riding through town with the windows down in the old blue suburban and Dave yelling out Karri! And David waving as they drove me parked in the save a lot parking about to deliver their packages. Friendships aren't always the same with everyone and some of my best most loved friends are people you would never expect. Like Dean and Frank at Carrington Park and old man John on main Ave with the little dog named kidd. Those are real friends you will always care about.
