It's not about the ambience here, this is where you come to when you are all about good food! You can dune inside it outside but be prepared to possibly encounter smokers.

food from darou salem restaurant is incredibly yummy.

AND they make everything fresh fresh; there's a short wait between ordering and receiving order but it's more than worth it imo. plantains, dibi lamb, and fish are my go-tos!

i bought lunch here for my best friend too, and she LOOOOOVED everything especially the fish and plantains

now about atmosphere and structure. there's a chill, laid-back vibe within the restaurant. the order counter is clean and typically operated by gentle speaking and friendly persons. there's nice low lighting [easier on the eyes and it sets a nice vibe to decompress]

there's both indoor and outdoor seating too, though the outdoor patio seating seems to accommodate more than just darou salem guests. so that may lead to less seating available during specific hours and/or on specific days. idk, there's been seating available for my party everytime we went, but still something to keep in mind if dining in

overall though, i love it here! it's a whole vibe, the food is excellent, and the service, friendly🙏🏾

Nice place that is hidden away in northside. Lamb is tasty and has a nice spice to it however some peices can be a little tough. Comes with nice pickled onions and a side. I got brown rice which was great. Can get very busy around dinner time. More suited for takeout

HORRIBLE SERVICE! If you’re not African just forget it they won’t even greet you or say here’s your order, just put it on the table and walk away. Terrible. Also rice was so greasy I could literally squeeze the grease like juice out of the rice. Just make it at home or go anywhere else

Took my wife here and had a super Wack experience. I'll never go back. Walked in and the place smelled like cigarettes, the guy at the counter acted like he didn't care if we ordered or not, no greeting no nothing. He wasn't helpful at all, no recommendations and even seemed to be annoyed that we had questions.

We ordered anyway sat down and noticed the how dirty the place was. I thought maybe he was having a bad day until other Africans came in and he was more lively with them. We decided to leave, we didn't want to pay 50 plus dollars for such a trash experience.

This was my favorite restaurant for my Quaterly fix of Mafe. But my recent order was very bad. The rice was dry, mafe wasn't as good and it didn't have side of hot sauce. I am very disappointed and sad to loose one of my favorite place.

This was some of the best food I've ever had. The flavor was incredible. I asked the guy what to order, he recommended the Dibi and the whole chicken. Absolutely mouthwatering- I'm not from this city, but I'd almost return just for a meal from this place!
