We didn't eat much. Lasagne and broccoli rabe was terrific. Grain salad—my wife wasn't wowed but she was expecting a more grain forward not greens forward dish. She had wine I had a mocktail (basil and lime maybe?). Mocktail was good. Service a little too chippy, chatty. I prefer quieter service. The room was in the loud side especially considering it wasn't full. On the expensive side but what isn't.
Everything was good. Not as good as anticipated or remembered but good. I wouldn't say the ribeye is worth the price $100. It was not cooked med rare as ordered but for sake of not complaining during date night we dealt with it. Also, the hash brown that's served with it is not as good as their French fries. Great drinks and atmosphere. Service was good. Might return but didn't WOW me.
We went on. Sunday night for dinner. Great experience all around. Will definitely be back.
We enjoyed our drinks and appetizers before going to the aronoff show. Our waitress Skyler was helpful and very nice. There was a business happy hour going on which was a bit loud but we still managed to have a nice time.
Our waitress, Rachel was attentive and super nice. Our (split) salad was perfect and our food arrived in a timely matter and was delicious. My wife got the crispy vegetarian lasagna and was excellent with a very nice sauce. I got the bone in sakura pork chop that comes slices on top of a bed of rice and beans...excellent.
Waiter was very slow and seemed like he lacked knowledge about the menu. Restaurant was very loud when busy. Cheeseburger and fries, as well as croquettes, were very good but s'mores desert and faro salad were underwhelming. (Parking garage next door took an hour to get out of due to broken pay stations so that also put a dent in the evening). I have no plans to return.
Pennyflower was great - we started with the charred broccolini & beef carpaccio, then my friend had the chicken entree and I chose the farro salad - we both finished with the s'mores dessert. All of the food selections were delicious; nicely balanced and perfect temperature. The service lagged a bit and management supplemented when our server got busy - it is nice to have that support for guests and servers alike. I look forward to returning.
The evening got off to a slow start. It took 1/2 hour to get our drinks and to order dinner. The floor manager came by and things moved more briskly after that. It was Restaurant Week, so they may have had a crush of diners gumming up the works. In any case, the food was excellent! We had the carpaccio and the croquettes to start, Amish chicken and the pasta entrée followed by the crème brûlée and the 'smores. The pasta, in particular, was outstanding. We will definitely go back.
Overall—good. The Brie was good but the dessert bread was a strange combo. The bone marrow—meat on top was a treat but the actual marrow wasn't cooked as well as others I have had. The salads and lasagna were very tasty. Service a bit slow but think that's more coming from kitchen. I would recommend and return in the future.
The food was really delicious. My friend and I shared the prosciutto croquettes and the tuna app and then shared the halibut, which was phenomenal. The drinks were also amazing. We had each, two blueberry basil limoncello spritzers and they went down way too easily. For dessert, we had espresso martinis which were pretty good. Ally, our server, was overall amazing. She was helpful, knowledgeable about the menu items, and seemed very enthusiastic about working there. She was such a delight.

Took my husband for his birthday dinner. The staff was lovely and service wonderful. Pennyflower is a real treat. Dreamy food and drinks, beautiful art deco style ambiance. I enjoyed the mushroom lasagna, delicate and a tad salty, and he loved the Hot Nashville chicken sandwich with delicious house made pickles. We both adored the croquettes and perfectly balanced salad to start. The special desert hit the spot! We will be back!
Really wanted to like this restaurant, a little away from the busy part of downtown, a bright, airy place perfect for a quick, casual meal. But I just can't. Both the Caesar and wedge salads were better than average. The carbonara croquettes and the tuna appetizers were not. Both suffered from a heavy grease flavor. Completely overwhelmed any carbonara or tuna flavor. My guess is that the oil they were fried in badly needed to be changed. The waitress was pleasant enough, but she was way late in bringing a glass of wine and then brought the wrong one. On top of this, I was charged for my favorite bourbon which they were out of (charge removed when pointed out) in addition to the bourbon I ultimately ordered.
Last week I stumbled across a menu for a new restaurant in Cincinnati called Penny Flower. Having just sold my 40 year old catering company, Jeff Thomas Catering, I still eagerly look to explore new and exciting restaurants. I was mesmerized by the creative approach to the menu. It took the liberty to twist the combinations of both comfort and world cuisine. I went last night and boy did it wow me! First, the decor was pleasant and tasteful. I don't like the downtown restaurants that are so over decorated to impressed the “entitled” community. Plus, the spacing of the tables was a welcome addition. Some were even semi circular booths for extra privacy. But they also had the long communal table that can be fun for meeting new people and sharing an evening. Bar seating for dinner is also available for those dining as singles wishing for something more comfortable. Our dinner included three starters and splitting a main course. We started with Carbonara Croquettes. They were filled with Prosciutto and a yummy cream sauce. Then the Moroccan Beef Tartare. The twist to a classic was magnificent. Having just returned from Morocco, it brought back all the flavors I had experienced but with a twist of crispy rice noodles to create a very distinct texture that bought it to a whole new level. Next was the Roasted Bone Marrow. It was a very unique display of the roasted bone filled with braised short ribs. Simply sublime. We were smart to split a main course and chose to keep it on the lighter side with the Halibut with Spring Peas, Salmon Roe and finished with a Buerre Blanc. Simply delicious. We followed with the chef's very left of center interpretation of the classic S'mores. Trust me, this was not your typical dish. I'm diabetic but could not resist the sugar spike that was sure to be the after math. Chef Jacob Benavides joins Penny Flower after leaving the prestigious post of Chef de Cuisine at Cincinnati's premier Boca Restaurant. A must try!
This was a wonderful surprise. I am not normally interested in dining in hotel restaurants but this meal was outstanding. The pork chop was among the best i have had and the grain salad was wonderful. My wifes beef carpacio was delicious and both meals were presented beautifully. The service was very attentive without being intrusive. We will be back to try their fall menu.
Well-prepared food, short menu but the 3 dishes we had were interesting. Bone marrow done beautifully. Wine prices better than comparable restaurants. Very nice dining space. Very good service
