I’ve heard so many good things about Rood. It’s out of our way so never had the chance to visit. But today we happened to be in Lakewood at 4:35pm so this was our chance. We had eaten a late lunch so we just wanted dessert. Walked in, were seated, it was early so only one other customer in the place. Ordered a dessert each and then waited 20 minutes for dessert? Okay but it’s going to be the best dessert ever, right? Big nope. The chocolate cake was meh. Nothing special about it. The Salt and Honey pie (which is their specialty) was okay but the pie crust was so hard I used a knife to cut through it.
I’m so disappointed. Not worth the drive.

Rood is always amazing. I could not recommend them enough with both their delicious dishes but also the wonderful service. My husband and I have made it our spot for special occasions for good reason!

My boyfriend and I decided to finally try Rood on Valentine's Day after wanting to go for the past few years we've lived in Lakewood. I am not exaggerating when I say this was one of the best experiences and meals we have EVER had. Aside from the food, you could tell the staff really cared to ensure customers had an amazing experience. Will DEFINITELY be going back!

All around phenomenal date night. The server was knowledgeable and gave great suggestions. My water was always filled promptly. Cocktails were unique but comforting. Food was absolutely delicious, the potatoes ripped. As for the dessert…. One of the best programs around. Thoughtful, decadent, and all around enjoyable

My husband and I came here for my birthday today, and it was our first time here! We have been wanting to try it so bad and seriously SO glad we did. Best experience, such fun and creative food choices and the atmosphere and the staff is so so kind and knowledgeable about the dishes!! The food was amazing and completely worth every penny, whole time we were kicking our feet !! Haha, WILL be returning. 100/10!

Wonderful as always. This is our go to spot for a special occasion and it never disappoints. Excellent food and service, in a relaxed and fun space. 10/10 would recommend.

Food and service were wonderful, but we were seated next to the bathroom, and we did notice the smell. We thought it was a little pricey. All that being said, we would go back.

The chef made the night even more special by coming out to explain each course, which added such a personal and thoughtful touch to the meal. Our server, Sean, was absolutely spectacular—attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. He made sure everything flowed perfectly and helped make the entire evening feel relaxed and special. Rood has always been a great restaurant, but their current 7 course tasting menu is so excellent it would be a shame not to share! Chef Josh and the whole team are working to reduce food waste and are offering this tasting menu trying to use all parts of the fare they purchase to help do their part for the world. This doesn’t mean you end up with strange off-cuts or old produce, but instead are offered dishes incorporating sauces and purees made by them in-house, aging and preserving to stick to the mantra of the offering. I truly believe the ingenuity and expertise they show in the dishes are on par with Michelin-prospects in larger cities.
Because they are mostly using ingredients on hand, the menu changes frequently, with dishes switching out or being altered as much as every week. On this occasion, I enjoyed delicious and inventive dishes such as an oyster with a house made citrus-kosho, squash 3 ways (squash served in a squash-miso sauce with squash vinegar), a “fish-stick” made from scallops, elk loin, and a beautiful stone axe wagyu with parsnip puree, potato mille-feuille, and smoked bourbon marinated oyster mushrooms (a smaller portion of the dish on their current menu). All of this and more made for a truly wonderful evening on a cold Cleveland night!
The service at Rood feels truly welcoming, with wait staff, bartenders and chefs all feeling professional yet friendly and approachable: the kind of people that are busy working but happy to slow down for a moment to chat. The drink menu is excellent as well, with well-crafted cocktail options and solid beer and wine choices to pair with all of their dishes.
Any review of Rood would not be complete without mentioning their desserts! One of only a few restaurants with a pastry chef not only on staff, but as a partner of the business. Honestly, there’s been more than one occasion where I’ve visited exclusively for cocktails and desserts.
I wanted to leave this review to encourage others to go enjoy this tasting menu as I felt like it might not be getting the attention it deserves, but on this night I saw the chef and team bringing out many of the tasting dishes to tables in the dining room, so the secret might be out. Still, I hope my review encourages someone to splurge a bit on an evening with fun, delicious and inventive food from a passionate restaurant.
