The only reason this place has a 4.5 star rating is because the good ratings appear to be before the restaurant was sold to the current owners.

The atmosphere of this establishment is all over the place. First walking in it looks a little cute but the more you look the more out of place things start to look. The blaring 80s heavy metal and pinball machines seem like a nearly-divorced dad’s midlife crisis was to open a restaurant play place since his wife doesn’t let him have a man cave.

The service was awful, bartender seemed annoyed to greet us and when asked about beers on tap she pointed to a sign across the restaurant that I had to get up and walk over to because she couldn’t be bothered to list of like 5 beers? Both she and our server had no idea what was going on any time a question was asked and basically ignored us and chatted amongst themselves until we had to ask for service. I asked what the house sauce was that was listed on nearly every burger and she told me it was just a mayo, which was not true she just didn’t know.

When food came we had to get up and ask for silverware and napkins, no one checked in on us the entire time and anything we needed we had to get up to ask for it. Then when it came time to pay the auto prompt for tip was audaciously set to 25%, that’s typically what I would tip under normal circumstances but the service here was so bad there was no way that was justified.

Seemed like the owners and family were there having dinner and didn’t seem phased by their servers having lack of serving their customers. For 2 burgers (1 with a small side of fries), an app, and 2 beers it was about $85 which is outrageous for how bland and unremarkable the dishes were. Basically a Sysco ad menu.

This ain’t a local pub.

A few years ago when reading about the launch of this new pub, I held out that it might become a local place where I could go for a beer whenever. Shaker is missing that.

I’ve checked in now and again over the years, and the place has floundered, not necessarily financially - I don’t know anything about that - but in terms of identity.

The locally brewed beer was good enough, and I gravitated to the smash burger, reliable and tasty.

More recently, and since the redesign and reopening, I’ve gone twice. Yeah, no. It might have direction - I don’t know - but there was nothing friendly and laid back about the place.

There’s a nearby watering hole in the van Aken area - imperfect but better than this place.

I’ll keep hoping and looking.

The place has been painted and wallpapered recently and it looks great. Also new comfortable furniture and a golf game in addition to other arcade games and pinball. Tastiest beer in Cleveland and a great menu to go along with it. Smash burgers and a huge delicious pretzel.

Great night at the Midnight Owl. Beer was delicious. I enjoyed 7/8 beers on my double flight. Food was solid, we ordered pretzels, empanadas, and wings. Atmosphere was relaxed with a mix of families, couples, and groups. Service was friendly, but a touch slow- probably because it was pretty busy. Definitely will return.

Always a solid beer choice available and the staff make you feel welcome! Really neat idea to embrace the kosher tradition, but also have food trucks available. Can’t wait to get there for a trivia night!

Used to have great food, would go just for the fries. Food quality sucks now.

Waited over half hour for a takeout order
The empanada is inedible, it is unbelievably salty and tastes like it was defrosted for 6$ not worth it

The fries are horrible, not made fresh and a tiny serving for 5$
They taste like instant mash potatoes put in a waffle machine with buckets of salt

The burger bun was totally stale and the burger itself was flavorless and tiny

Bad service
