Food and service is great, however when sitting in one of the booths I noticed dust along the wood where the plants were. I did inform the waiter who waited on us and he assured to let management know. Hopefully they've gotten better with the upkeep of the restaurant.

ohhhhhh My GOODNESS... we live in Kent ohio... and i wanted something would cook but didn't want to cook it... it was also my 44th birthday... On May 22 2025.. my husband and I drove 190 mile one way to a random restaurant that fell under the search tab of soul food. I have never been to detroit so I was very surprised with the city vibe... the location was great! when I walked in i noticed the smiles first.... then the bar had a whole sports bar vibe... the way the dining...read full review

Fixins Soul Kitchen offers an outstanding dining experience with fabulous service, even when the venue is busy. The menu features delectable soul food, including mouthwatering fried chicken, chicken and waffles, creamy mac and cheese, and a unique sweet butter dish. Guests can also enjoy delicious appetizers like fried okra and fried deviled eggs. The friendly staff serves up large portions of sweet tea, leaving diners eager to return for dessert and a margarita. The atmosphere is nice and the restaurant is clean, with wheelchair accessibility. The chicken sandwich and fries were exceptional. The two piece white chicken dinner with red beans and collard greens was cooked very well, with excellent seasoning and breading. The rice in the beans was cooked perfect and the beans were very tasty. The greens were exceptional, probably a favorite item. The biscuit was well executed and paired well with the sweet butter. The place is very clean and nicely decorated. The fried chicken, collard greens/cornbread and Mac n cheese are superb. Service, hospitality and freshness were on point. The chicken and waffles are delightful. The Black Wall Street Old Fashioned is delish. Highly recommend this place.
