“For less than $2, you get a single scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone. The ice cream is delicious, and a bargain in today's market. Brahm's is not available in my home area, and I wish the timing would have been better so that we could have ordered a meal there. The food also looked great.“

“Gloria's is a nice little diner with a modern take...clean and inviting, without the 47 years of grease buildup on the menu, and without the duct taped booth seats :) But don't let the "new" fool you...their food and service are classic!
The reviews on Google were great (4.7 stars) with only one review lower than 4 stars (a 1 star review left by a guy who thought his fries were ugly. He obviously confused 'fresh hand cut' with 'ugly').
The menu is typical diner fare, with chicken fried and hamburger steak, sandwiches and burger options, and since it was Catfish Friday, that was the plan...until the server walked by with a chicken fried steak dinner...and it was ON.
Gloria's chicken fried steak uses their own breading and seasoning (as does their catfish), and it was crispy and flaky with just enough flavor and spices to complement but overpower the steak. The CFS was the size of the plate -- it wasn't thick, but it hadn't been pounded/tenderized paper thin just to make it look huge. Definitely enough for two people to enjoy, unless you don't share food...and Joey doesn't share food.
In the great debate of batter vs steak (where some CFSs end up with way more 'fried' than steak) this one was a great balance. Lots of steak, but enough extra 'fried' to use to sop up the puddle of gravy that came with the steak.
I was there at lunch, and they were busy (no wait, but almost every table full) and my food was ready in just a few minutes...and was piping hot. Rarely does a CFS stay hot through the last bite, but this one did. The sides were REAL mashed potatoes--not fluffy from flakes from a box, but chunky because they were REAL potatoes. Freshly mashed. With gravy. Lots of gravy.
The green beans were also excellent, with great flavor and seasoning. The sides and roll are served on their own plate, because the portions are large enough they could be a meal all their own :)
Oh...and the catfish. Since it was Catfish Friday, I had to try it. The fish was also served hot, and their batter and seasoning was spot on...the fish was flaky and tasted great. Their house made tartar sauce was really good, although I prefer mine with a little more relish, because Mississippi... Maybe next time I'll have the Catfish dinner with a side of CFS :)
Unfortunately, I realized that I did not save room for dessert. When my server asked if I would like some, I politely declined. I did happen to take a peek in the ice box, and realized the error of my ways. From German chocolate cake to chocolate pie, to pecan and several others...all made from scratch in house by Gloria herself...and their Blue Ribbon Bread Pudding...I deeply regret my decision to not take one for the team, but an afternoon meeting required that I was not in a food coma. A Taste Tour: Gloria's Dessert Edition is definitely in order!
Do yourself a favor and plan a trip out west on Route 66 to Hydro soon to stop in and enjoy some great food and service at Gloria's...just be sure and save room for dessert.
Vegetarian options: Several vegetable sides that are large enough to make a meal.
Kid-friendliness: Kids menu, accessible booths and tables.
Wheelchair accessibility: Very open layout with wheelchair accessibility“
