This place has a scenic atmosphere and is well decorated. The location is stunning. It's unfortunate that the food does not live up to expectations. The appetizers were quite good, but almost every entree was overcooked and lacked flavour and richness. I wrote to the owner who neglected to respond. Too bad, it looked promising.

I called to see if they were accepting walk ins and they said yes. So 18 minutes later, we arrive and are told they are not accepting walk ins. I would never set foot in this restaurant again. It was my first time trying it out and what a fail.

Bad service = bad review I rarely write reviews like this. Two tables on the patio other than our family so not busy. Table was not wiped down when we were sat. Food is delivered but no cutlery, so wait a few minutes for someone to bring the cutlery but nothing. Had to go to front of house to ask for cutlery. No napkins so had to ask for this as well. Cutlery and napkins on the table are as basic as it gets when it comes to serving. Server doesn't bother asking us if we want mains as he assumed we only want only one appetizer, so we wait even longer for our mains. Server stood there and chatted with ths table beside us quite a bit during the time we were there but didn't bother to serve us properly. Just absolutely bad service with no attention to detail. Not sure if it was the owner serving or not but get it together. Coming from a former server, its not hard. I wouldn't recommend eating here. The food was better than the service but not by much.

We stopped for a lunch spontaneously since it has a nice patio, not expecting the best food necessarily. We were sat at a dirty table that had not been whipped. I had seen pictures of their calamari plates on social media, ours came with barely anything in it, very pathetic. Our kids had finished eating their food by the time server came to take our main course order. We had to ask for basic cutlery and napkins. I ordered a Caesar salad that was absolutely disgusting; a plate of uncut heart of romaine lettuce with a big blob of dressing thrown on top and very minimal pieces of prosciutto. I could not eat it with that much sauce. Left the restaurant still hungry and disappointed. Service was way too slow given the restaurant was empty, there was one table with a couple beside us that seemed to get service but seems like the server only cared about them.

We went there for dinner 30 Min before our reservation. We were greeted warmly and seated right away in the dining room. From hostess to server and cleaning staff everyone was friendly and nice. It felt like they genuinely cared about us and if we liked the food. They accommodated all our requests with a smile. The place is beautiful with original decorations. We were a bit disappointed with our main course - pickerel, which was complemented with puréed veggies, hard boiled egg and swam in oil. Few pieces of arugula did not enhance the fish. Some crunch from whole pieces of grilled vegetables would have been a great addition. Over all it’s a beautiful place with great ambience. We will give it another try.

What’s going on?! I saw others locally giving poor reviews and I thought it must be one offs. My husband and I went for dinner and were surprised as BH always delivers exceptional food. I ordered the panini of the day sandwich which was described by the server as cheese and red peppers (thinking gourmet grill cheese), and to my shock came with a spicy sausage? Good thing I’m not a vegetarian. The sandwich was dry as there was no sauce with the sausage and hardly any cheese. My husband ordered a beer and the server poured it in front of us into a glass incorrectly and it was 3/4 a glass of foam?! I don’t think we will be returning anytime soon. Too bad as this WAS a great spot. If I see locally reviews start becoming more positive again, will try again as it has the best patio in town.

Today, my husband surprised me with lunch at Boulton House in Carleton Place, a gorgeous stone building right on a waterfall. Our table was right on the water and we spent a lovely time, relaxing on a circular, comfy outdoor sofa in the gorgeous weather, eating really delicious food and drinking our specialty coffees. We chose a great Steak Frite for me and the most delicious Lasagne for Serge and of course we tried each meal. Our waiter, Reg, was excellent: friendly, efficient and with a sense of humour that made us decide that we shall definitely return to this place as regulars. Do yourselves a favour and visit. It will be worth it! 💜✨️
