Great little pub. Really good food. A little cramped (small space) but that is tolerable with the quick friendly service and genial atmosphere.

St.James Gate has been my go to pub since relocating to Carleton Place in early 2024. All the food is excellent to taste and appearance, the sandwiches, burgers, zucchini sticks, salads (very good salads)..not your typical pub food as its prepared with much more flavours and flair.
My partner thoroughly enjoys the Guiness Beer and they know how to pour it correctly!
Highly recommend checking rear patio of restaurant in summer..not as noisy as front main street tables.
Highly recommend reservations on Thursdays or Fridays when live music on!

First time visit yesterday. Great service, and cozy spot. Was busy but that did not slow down the service. We had the Fish and Chips and Beef Dip, both fantastic. Good size portions and quality food at a fair price!! Definitely would recommend trying.

St James Gate is a Pub with character that serves great Pub style food.I had the Bangers and Mash for dinner and it was really good. The staff are very friendly and courteous. I highly recommend dropping by here for a pint and some great food.

One of the worst, possibly ever steak sandwiched and a true embarrassment…

GREAT GATE STEAK SANDWICH - Watch out for this !!!

You will get a flat piece of steak that’s 50% filled with fat making it unedible laid ontop of a single piece of bread with some grilled onion on top.

Additionally, the steak is not even cut/sliced into pieces or anything. Literally off the stove and placed onto the bread.

No veggies, no sauce, no nothing. Just order a steak with side of bread at that point. - Better hope it’s not covered in fat !!!!

And they claim it’s a steak sandwiched.. Take This OFF The Menu.

Great food and service. I only ranked this place 3-stars because I was annoyed about the payment set-up which demands a minimum tip of 18% and up, or zero. There is no option to pay, say 15%. This is the first time I have encountered that situation, and I think it is out of line.
