I have been going to Bettys Tart for over a decade, ever since I was working in Cobourg. I love their butter tart, and had always had good experience there, until today. Today, I went in and got 20 tarts. 6 each of regular, pecan and raisin, and then another 2 of blueberry just to try it. If you didn't know, you get a slight discount when you buy six tarts. $15 for six ($2.50 each, compared to regular price of $2.75 each). The young lady that cashed me out wasn't overly friendly, and the group of girls working there seemed more interested in their social chat with each other. Anyway, the girl that rang the till for me hesitated a bit, and then punched in 20 tarts at 2.75 each, plus a square for $2. I wasn't sure of the calculations, so I did not say anything and paid $57 (20x$2.75 plus $2 for the square). When my sister was paying for hers, I got out my phone and calculated what my total shOuld have been ($15x3=$45, plus two tarts at regular price ($2.75x2=$5.5, plus $2 for the square = grand total of $52.5). So she over charged me by $4.50. Not the end of the world. When she saw me calculating, she charged my sister $15 per six tarts. My sister bought all in six-packs plus a couple of squares.
Anyway, in the end, I didn't say anything to the cashier because she really didn't seem interested in serving us. It's $4.50. Won't even buy two coffees at Tim's. But I have to say, the fact that she hesitated before punching in the cash register and that she registered the correct price for my sister clearly indicates that she knew what she was doing. That fact leaves a bad taste in my mouth (I guess pun intended since we're talking about food here). Makes me wonder if she was too lazy to do the calculations, if she doesn't like people like me (a bit of background info, I served the community of Northumberland County for approx five years in law enforcement, and I don't look like her) or what the motivation was. I will think twice now before buying there again when I am in the area. Yes, their butter tart is good, but being made to feel unappreciated or taken advantage of is not worth the effort.

Don't second guess yourself when it comes to stopping at Betty's and trying some of their offerings. The bigger problem is trying to decide what to leave behind.
I bought a raspberry pie that was so full of filling that everyone who had a slice commented. The crust was also perfection.
Next up are the tarts, everything from standard butter tarts to peanut butter and jam and everything in between. I had a cherry tart and my mouth still waters thinking of it!
I completely forgot to take pictures but I will the next time I visit. If you're from out of town they also have a little guestbook so drop a note and let them know where you're coming from and that Maggie sent you! ?
Parking: I haven't had a problem getting a spot but the parking out front is limited so when busy you might have a problem.

We got there at 12:15. They were switching over for lunch. They told us a 20 minute wait. We waited almost an hour. My wife ordered a turkey sandwich. I ordered broasted chicken. Take out deliveries get first priority. We finally got our food at 3:00. The chicken was good. Mashed potato’s were boxed, gravy was very mediocre. My wife said her turkey sandwich was good. The banana cream pie I got was not great. Considering pie is in the name of the restaurant. The server was very good. This place is very over rated. Much better places to eat.
Parking: Hard to park large vehicles. On a Wednesday morning it was packed

My buddy lost the tip of his finger and we bought him a Pumpkin Tart to make him feel better. It really cheered him up after a bad day.
He gave it one and a half thumbs up!!!

The staff are wonderful, knowledgeable and kind. Food is amazing. Great selection of pies and tarts. Look forward to going back the next time I'm there.

First time to Betty’s Tarts today with my daughter and was very excited about the experience. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by the worst customer service I’ve received in a long time. A young girl working the counter did not greet us as we came in and I expressed that it was our first time at the bakery and needed a minute to look at the items available. This was met by silence and staring on her end. I then told her I was ready and began to tell her what I wanted, just to be interrupted and asked if I wanted a box of six. I said “sure” and picked six tarts quickly because she appeared to be getting impatient. Checked out and did not receive a “thank you”, or any sort of pleasantry that would entice me to return.
When we got back in the car, my daughter commented on the workers behaviour and said “that girl seems like she’s over it.”
Although the tarts themselves are fantastic, the customer service was poor enough that I will not be returning.
Simply amazing - for the odd one star reviews go back to the gas station and get your tart there LoL this place is awesome everything is delicious
