I live very much in suburbs but happen to be surrounded by many small, family owned and operated businesses including two bakeries. I've recently discovered Black Walnut Bakery and was not only blown away by the product but by the staff and the atmosphere. I HIIIIIIGHLY recommend them ! Their multi-grain bread WILL knock your socks off (not to mention scrumptious desserts)

So delicious and worth the drive!I’ve tried some of their take home products and opted to snack outside on their lawn. This weekend I indulged in the carrot cake croissant and wow, was it special. I also tried my baby’s sweet potato bun which was flavourful and moist. So good. Consistently great customer service too!

This is far and away the best bakery in the Ottawa region, probably the best in Ontario. The staff are helpful and friendly, and the food is incredible. It's worth taking a significant detour to visit here!

Fantastic place to visit for whatever baked goods you may need. Everything sold here is absolutely delicious, and they have unique seasonal menu items that are worth lining up bright and early for. No matter where you live, I'd recommend coming down on the weekend and treating yourself to some food here.

I made a special trip out to Cumberland to pick up a pie because I’ve bought them in the past and they’re usually really good. The pie I purchased tasted fine but it was literally welded to the pie plate because the whole thing bubbled over. I don’t mind spending $18 for a properly made fresh pie, but that’s not what I got. It was in a sealed box in a refrigerator, I couldn’t check what I was buying without breaking the seal and that just seemed rude so I took a chance that it would be as good as I remembered. I don’t like giving small local businesses less than stellar reviews but if you’re gonna charge 18 bucks for a small pie you should make sure it is made properly, it should be fresh that day which means not refrigerated, and it should not be completely stuck to the pie plate.I did hear back from the bakery and they did apologize and promised to look into the issue. I sincerely hope that they can resolve this because there are precious few good bakeries out there. I should also clarify that I did get the size that I paid for so there was no error on their part . I’m sure this was just an aberration and they will do better going forward.

Excellent food (breakfast, lunch, dinner & desserts), excellent service, tiny facility, but totally worth the waiting in line!
