Tomala - The Portuguese Pit Stop

Absolutely would not recommend, I’d offer up zero stars if possible. Also, the cook the pork and chicken on the same grill for any Muslims eating here.

The chicken and sauce are amazing. The potatoes are a must try. My son isn't a big fan of potatoes, but Toma La's potatoes are his favourite. It was by far the tastiest dinner I have had in a long time.

First time there & the food was exceptional & well priced!! Waited a bit to have someone seat us. Chef was pleasant & asked us how our meal was. Felt like we were being rushed by our server because they had a party coming in. During our whole meal the servers were moving the tables and chairs around which were extremely loud & annoying. Felt pads on the bottoms would probably solve this problem. Will try again. Maybe takeout might be a better option.

I have had the most amazing experience every time I go to Toma La. My husband is Portuguese and I’ve been to the island of Sao Miguel and ate the authentic tastes of the island. When I went there I was completely in awe eating the meal that brought me back to the Azores. Everything you order is amazing, I have been there many many times whether it be eating in their cozy restaurant or grabbing take out. We are so very happy to have found Toma La and made it our favourite place to eat.

The food was quite good and that is reason enough to return. Service was average and just recommend not going for a sit down meal when it's cold outside. Every time someone opened the door, we were freezing and the meal cooled down very fast. While we were eating, they were handling a delivery and left the door open for quite a while. We had to put out coats back on and bundle the kids up. Too bad they dont use the structure already in place to put at least those winter curtains to keep the place warm. In summary, recommend this place for the takeout as the food is very good.

Obsessed with Toma La - which I think offers the best portuguese chicken in Hamilton. Wish there was a location in KW or Guelph.

Every time I pass through the area, I'm always delighted to get a Whole Chicken Dinner for our family - the chicken is perfect and roasted parisien potatoes are addictive (however, sometimes they have a bit too much salt).

We waited for more than an hour only to find out from the staff that they forgot our order. They did not even offer to any compensation so we just walked out. I had a guest from out of town and got really embarrassed. Too bad, I liked their food, but this experience will prevent from coming back in the future.

Do not go here because of poor service. They forgot to place our order and we waited for an hour and 20 minutes. They did not even update us except for saying “your food is coming”. Very disappointing so decided to leave.

To begin with, the staff being so welcoming already sets a good tone for the service we were about to receive.

Andrea was the one who assisted us and she was sweet, patient (because it was my first time there haha) and because we requested spicy, they offered their house made piri-piri and Carolina 1920 which was a hit for us! The habanero from that sauce truly elevated the « Bife de Frango Grelhado ».

We also had dessert with espresso and I truly liked the cinnamon stick on the side to eliminate the coffee breath 😎

Now let’s talk about the SETTING! 🔥
You can tell the owner was intentional with the staging because it truly transpired Portuguese authenticity. I also noticed that they were detailed in their decoration because from the whole setting it was warm, the music was good too and even the tv was related to the restaurant lol! It was two different worlds in one small location. Adding the wall to separate take outs and dine-in, I’d like to give the flowers to the owner because this renovation was a great investment.

I was even told that the owner didn’t want to stretch himself too much to keep the quality and that I really appreciated his decision. Therefore to the owner, may your business keep its integrity while you witness increase in your turnover. May you experience success with grace. May you continue to evolve because I had a great time.

We recently hosted our daughter’s baptism reception at Toma La, and it was nothing short of perfect. From start to finish, the experience was flawless. The food was outstanding—every dish was packed with flavor, from the seafood and meats to the beautifully presented fruit platters. The variety was impressive, catering to every guest's tastes.

The staff and service were exceptional. They took care of every detail, including setting up the area beautifully. What truly stood out was the love and care they put into everything—they made us feel so special, and we didn’t have to worry about a thing because they handled it all with such professionalism and heart.

If you're looking for a venue that delivers beyond expectations, Toma La is the place. The food is delicious, the staff is amazing, and they serve with love. Or if you're simply looking for a restaurant, this is the place. Highly recommend!

Our family of 5 went to TomaLa for a birthday dinner. We wanted a familiar taste of Portuguese cuisine which is hard to find outside of Toronto and we were not disappointed. We all enjoyed the whole meal and service. Food was delicious, good size portions and service was amazing! Natas de ceu almost brought me there! ?
