Underwhelming experience and sub par food. The staff are pretentious and make it seem like you’re in for a gourmet experience when in fact it’s a grilled sandwich and a soup with the quality of Tim Hortons.

Quiet spot downtown Kingston with great vibes. Nice staff and lots of great healthy and hearty sandwich options. We had a medium soup, half of the daily special sandwich and a coffee it came to $19. Where else can you have a home cooked lunch for that price? Definitely recommend

I’ve been going to mermaid for five years now, at many points weekly with friends. What’s always brought me back is how at home I feel there. Go often enough and you’ll start to see familiar faces, choose a favourite sandwich or two, enjoy good conversation with the staff. The place is named after a favourite band of the owner, and the sandwiches are named after songs. It’s a restaurant born from care.

I’ve always seen Kingston as a city of tight community and original character. Mermaid fluently embodies both. Go say hi! Try the Kingpin(or all of them)! Become a local.

Great food. Helpful though quiet staff. I can forgive them their love of the obscure band Wilco because the sandwiches are Outasite. A shot in the arm for everyone! They are California stars even though they are in Kingston.

Mid sandwiches (mine came out soggy) but extremely cold environment in re: customer service. The younger woman at cash was standoffish. Girl I’m trying to give you guys money why are you rude?

Cute little spot in town that I was looking forward to visiting while passing through Kingston, the breakfast sandwiches themselves are fine, price is reasonable, etc. I was really disappointed by the service, I completely understand people have bad days etc. but the cashier working was completely unconcerned and didn’t even say hello to my girlfriend and I when we came in. Service was fast but the sandwiches were just sort of aggressively put down on the table. Everything about the body language and tone that was set is that they just wanted us in and out. I don’t expect forced smiles or anything, but warmer service would’ve been appreciated.

Oct 27 my husband and I went here for our first time and we won't be back. The young lady was not friendly or helpful in any way and when I ask a question she was very short with her answers. I run a very busy air bnb and have taken their menu out of my suite. I will not have my guests being treated like we were. My husband who never complains was shocked at the service we received. She never tried to explain the size of the sandwiches when I wasn't sure if I wanted a half or a whole sandwich. Fyi, the sandwiches are huge so a half would have been more than enough but I had a whole sandwich due to the young lady making zero effort to inforn me of the size. When I ask for a take out container I got a paper to wrap my half sandwich in. When the young lady brought our food she said not one word, put dishes down and left our table before we could even say thank you. The food is good but the service is questionable. We each got a full sandwich and a small soup and 1 ginger ale for 45.00! For that price I expect very good service and not to be treated like an inconvenience.
