Maybe I'm spoiled from Shoushin, but to pay almost the same, it's a lot noisier, and the service is not 100% attentive. Food good quality, rice (mmm...i have a different taste palate). Will i come again? probably not, $50 50bux difference to get Shoushin service, I'd rather pay a bit more, I'm already paying that kind of money anyways.
Also, when I came in, no one attended to me, and I waited 3-4 minutes.

Best sushi in city. Sei San is definitely the best omakase master in the city (food+vibe)!
Very amazing experience at Zen. The servers are kind-hearted and genuine. Food was delicious and fresh. Highly recommend.
My memory of the Zen Restaurant began when it was located in a strip mall location in Scarborough. Since moving to their location in Markham, the restaurant remains in a strip mall although in a much more affluent area. The restaurant is owned by Seiichi Kashiwabara who earned a Michelin star for his restaurant in 2024 and again in 2025. The restaurant seems like a hidden gem in Markham. Compared to its competitors in downtown Toronto (such as Aburi Hana which is also Michelin starred and excellent), the draw for Zen is the avoidance of the downtown core and its traffic. The quality of the omakase menu (which is well over $200 whether it is the sashimi or sushi and sashimi combination) but it is worth the cost in the presentation and quality. Fish is imported from Japan, Canada's East Coast and Scotland (which was surprising). The Japanese spirit menu is plentiful with numerous varieties of sake that cannot be easily procured through the LCBO. Most impressively though, the quality of the food impressed by Japanese Canadian mother who made it a point of voicing her approval and stating that she would be back again. In my mind, that is the most impressive complement the Japanese restaurant could obtain.
Very fresh sashimi and sushi. I really love to tempura, deep fried soft shell crab.

Had an amazing omakase lunch at Zen. They have a 3-course $79 lunch special (you pick sushi or sashimi) with a set of appetizers like miso soup, tempura, vegetables, etc. The sushi is omakase style every piece was fresh, finely cut, and had a hint of wasabi they put in each piece of sushi, an authentic taste.
The vibe is calm and classy, great for date night or a treat-yourself evening. Love the modern japanese decor inside too. Lots of seating and quite spacious.

First of all, keep your eyes open as you approach the restaurant. The Zen sign isn't easy to spot among the other signs and I went by the first time. Staff greeted us upon arrival, escorted us to the table and brought glasses of hot green tea. They explained the menu and offered suggestions when asked. Very polite and knowledgeable. Appetizer serving with Sushi Gozen was more than ample and offered many different delicacies. When asked about Japanese beer, the waiter suggested a large bottle of Orion to be shared between two people. Sushi was fresh and served quickly after the appetizer plate. Service was attentive at every opportunity. I warmly recommend this restaurant for a high-end dinner. It's a little pricy but more than worth the cost.

✨ Zen Omakase is outstanding. The fish is incredibly fresh, every course is beautifully crafted, and the attention to detail really shows the chef’s passion. The service is warm and professional, and the whole experience feels special from start to finish. Truly deserving of the Michelin Guide recognition 👏 Highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic, high-quality omakase in Toronto 🍣

Our waitress was very attentive, food was delicious. We have been going to Zen for almost two decades from their original location.
Met up with some friends for dinner and this was such a cute a cozy restaurant. We had the set sushi gozen set meal from the omakase menu and it was just the right amount of food. Both the presentation of each dish and tastiness was on point! We’ll definitely be back.
