Used to be my favorite Chinese Food restaurant. I've been going here for over 20 years. The last few times are enough to make me reconsider and start going to the one in Riverside South, which is slightly farther away, but which has some great food options, especially their Buddha's Delight. The NHS used to substitute veggie fried rice for the chicken fried rice if you ordered over $35.00 (current deal). In fact, the first time we went there, were ordered several vegetarian dishes, and the person at the cash said we could have a free veggie fried rice instead of the chicken, which is their advertised deal. After that, we would just ask for the veggie fried rice, and they obliged. Last time we ordered over $50.00 of veggie dishes and asked for veggie fried rice instead of the chicken, and they turned us down, saying it was busy and they don't make substitutions when they are busy. OK - we walked away. Tonight we showed up at 8pm and ordered $44.00 of tofu dishes and asked for veggie fried rice instead of chicken and were turned down again - we were told that they never make substitutions (since when?). We placed the order anyway as it was getting late, but that is the last time we will place a large order there - we may get a small, one-dish order if we're desperate, but if they cannot give us veggie rice instead of chicken, that comes off as very unfriendly - especially when they've done it for decades; perhaps the place was sold to new owners who won't substitute. Not to mention, it took over 30 minutes for them to make our food - this is at their slow period, and we ordered 3 tofu dishes - nothing complicated. The person taking orders was not at all friendly and disappeared into the kitchen after taking the order, and did not come out until our order was ready - she could have at least given a clue as to how long it would be. The prices jumped an average of $3.00 per dish since covid - as has been the case for many restaurants - I'd be ok with that if the food and service were what they were before covid, but for this particular restaurant, it is not the case. Their Buddha's delight, for example, had two small pieces of mushroom in it .... the one in Riverside South is full of WHOLE mushrooms, and a few varieties of them - for about the same price. The spicy crispy tofu was good, the tofu noodles were ok, but someone went really heavy with the soy sauce - it was extremely salty. Sorry, New Hong Shing, but you need to do better to retain long time customers. Good customer service goes a long way to forgiving food that is not up to usual standards and long wait times ....

I ordered several times. The previous visits were okay - nothing outstanding but not bad either. However the take out we got on the new year eve was horrible. The flavour was not there at all, portions were small to an extend and most importantly the food was not fresh. 6 out of 8 dishes were nearly not etable. My 4 yrs old got upset stomach by only took one bite of the fish. We will not be back

Over $100 worth of different dishes for five people, not one had a chinese food taste. Even the sauce was lacking flavour. Egg rolls not up to par. Most of the meal went into the garbage.
