We had a great meal at Treadwell to celebrate our anniversary. Benoit and Alex were attentive, fun and greatly enhanced our experience!
This is my second time at this restaurant. My first time eating here was fantastic. The sommelier had spent a lot of time with us to talk about the wines, and we had time to ask questions. All the food seemed to be reasonably sized portions for a multi-course meal. The food, service and atmosphere were all top notch.
This time, not so much.
I had a reservation for 8:15, and arrived a bit early. Our table wasn't ready yet, so we were offered a glass of champagne. We waited outside (probably about 28C). The time of our reservation came and went. When the hostess finally looked at us and said our table was ready, they asked our name, and it was for someone else. They proceeded to tell us our table was not ready yet, and that the table was paying. Then the hostess said, sorry I thought you were this other person, and that she was not the hostess. I asked to speak with the manager (which did not happen). So, we were left waiting outside in the heat. They offered us more champagne which we declined. They offered us a table outside, which was not what we were looking for and said we wanted the table we booked inside. I advised them that they may need to have the difficult conversation with the people who were lingering inside that the next table has arrived.
Finally around 8:30, we were seated. The server seemed rushed and was clearly hot and over worked. We had the 3-course meal and my partner got the wine pairing. Similar to the server, the sommelier was rushed; he didn't have a lot of time to talk to us about the wines and kept getting called away while he was serving us. The food was okay, but not as good as I remember from my previous experience. The portions also seemed bigger, which is not necessarily better, because I was over full at the end of the meal. I am sure that the extreme heat and very high level of noise in the restaurant didn't help. Since we started dinner so late we were in the restaurant until almost 11pm.
We were provided a discount on our meal for the overall challenges that we had, but this was a birthday dinner, and it really fell flat.
Something has changed with this place. I am not sure if there has been a change in ownership or management, but this was really not a good experience and I highly doubt I will be back.
Large dinner party in the basement wine cellar. Beautiful location and ambiance. The preset 3 course meal was amazing. All of the apps were delicious especially the asparagus and the mushrooms. Mains had lots of choice and the halibut was 5star.
Service was excellent, helpful and patient. We have been there numerous times and can totally recommend it if you are looking for a great meal in NOTL.
Never disappointed when we eat here. Rachel was a sweet heart, Cathy our server was very pleasant and efficient and Bill our sommelier was out standing. Thank you for making us feel special. See you soon!
Really great food with high quality ingredients. Professional service.
Foodborne illness after eating at Treadwell:
I had lunch at Treadwell’s recently and unfortunately got sick within hours of my meal. I had a mushroom soup and mushroom pasta, and although it tasted fine at the time, later that evening I experienced severe stomach upset, cramps, nausea, chills, and body aches.
I came to check reviews after, and saw another review posted the today describing the exact same experience - severe illness shortly after eating here. That suggests there may have been an issue in the kitchen that night, whether from contaminated ingredients or improper food handling.
It’s a shame because I’ve eaten here before, and have enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service.
Came to Treadwell’s for dinner with my husband and friends on a trip to Canada from New York. We selected this restaurant because of how accommodating they were for my friend who is gluten free. We sat out on the patio and had a lovely dinner. The service was okay but the sommelier, Matthew, was especially wonderful and knowledgeable.
I ate the halibut with potted shrimp which tasted wonderful at the time but within 3 hours of leaving the restaurant, I became horribly sick. Sparing the details, eating here ruined my vacation; wasn’t able to leave bed or the bathroom for the next 36 hours. I drove all the way to Canada to see the falls and didn’t get to see anything other than my Airbnb’s bathroom. My husband called and was told the owner would be calling him back but we still have yet to hear back. Eat here at your own risk!
From the moment I approached the restaurant, I was impressed. The elegance of the space was apparent as soon as we walked through the doors. We ordered the French toast and the lobster eggs Benedict, and both dishes were phenomenal. The lobster eggs Benedict was packed with generous portions of lobster meat, and the hollandaise sauce was exquisite—easily some of the best I’ve ever tasted, even with my background in college-level culinary courses. The combination of garlic, butter, English muffin, and lobster was absolutely perfect.
As for the French toast—it was the best I’ve ever had! Paired with a decadent cappuccino, the meal was truly memorable. Our waiter, Frank, was friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable, which made the experience even better.
We’ll absolutely be back the next time we’re in town. Highly recommend!

Vegetarian options: There was at least one vegetarian option at each course. The waiter also mentioned that changes could be made to accommodate, but it was not needed in my case

Absolutely flawless! The food and the server, Courtney, were spectacular. The ambiance was relaxed. Every course was amazing (my compliments to the chefs) The sommelier, Alex, was so knowledgeable and engaging as we discussed the pairings and wines in general. The pairings were perfect, . Without a doubt the best meal we have had in NOTL over many years. Thank you so much.... we WILL be back.

Lovely little restaurant connected to 124 on Queen hotel and spa! We were visiting NOTL for our honeymoon and with the hotel package did breakfast at the restaurant all three mornings. The first two days we had Frank as a server, he was very fun and had a great smile. Recognized us from the first day and said "you told me you'd be back!" the second. He also gave some great recommendations for places to checkout in the area as first time visitors. The last morning our server was Colleen who was also so lovely. She was taking another tables order and saw my husband fiddling with his empty coffee cup as there was a tiny something in the cup itself (which happens, it was clean otherwise just something fell in the cup), and she came right over after taking the others tables order and immediately got him a new coffee cup. Very on top of things! Each breakfast was so delicious and it was cool getting to watch them cook right in front of us. Across the three mornings we tried the lobster benedict, the brioche pan pardue, and the chef's breakfast. As well, whichever local coffee shop the coffee beans comes from it, it was also really good coffee with breakfast!

Treadwell catered our wedding at The Gatehouse/124 on Queen on October 5, 2024. The food was absolutely amazing, we had high hopes considering the beautiful evening we had when we completed our wedding tasting and we were even more blown away. As somebody with celiac, they took every precaution and took my allergy very seriously, i had delicious options and did not get sick after eating. Our guests had nothing but amazing things to say about the food as well. We have heard "best food i have ever had at a wedding" multiple times. Thank you Treadwell!!!

To preface this review, we love treadwells! We’ve been on multiple occasions in the past and have had amazing tasting dinners. However, the current menu does not stand up to our previous experiences. The overall flavours of the dishes were very subpar and lacking. The best dish of the night was the char siu pork belly (not pictured); we wish that was a main course option!
The service and the wine definitely saved our night. But we’d recommend waiting a bit for a more refined or different menu.
