My mom went into the bakery to order 2 cakes here for a family member’s birthday. One cake was the Hazelnut and the other was the rose lychee cake as it is on their website and it seemed everything was fine.

My mom went to pick up the cakes only to be informed at pick up that the rose lychee cake is made once a month and that they weren’t able to make it for her. Instead she got oolong lychee cake.

The second cake my mom ordered did not match the image on the website.

There was no communication from the bakery whatsoever the day my mom placed the order the previous week regarding this.

We won’t be ordering from here again due to poor communication and customer service.

Drove an hour to get here. We site makes no mention they are closed Monday and Tuesday. Unacceptable in my opinion. You pay a fortune for their treats you would think some of the profits could pay to have someone update the hours.

Pro: Delicious food. Server is very nice and responsive. Very nice setting.
Cons: 1) There are only 3 teas to choose from, which is super lacking and not competitive with other high tea places. When picking the teas, the server showed a picture of how the tea looks like. The tea looked like they are not stored properly and just jammed in a closet. The herbal tea box looked unpleasant, so choice went from 3 tea choices to 2 teas. 2) washroom was not maintain and yellow everywhere. Server cleaned it after complain. Still very unacceptable as its a food place 3) Server is too new and need training. Don't get me wrong, she is trying her best and responsive, but she should not be left by herself while being new. She had to serve, greet and clean washroom.

I searched online and found out they have lava cake. So I called in advance check if they have any left. The staff was really nice they said they would make a new one for me.
When I arrive it was a bit pass 5, but the staff still greeted me with big smile and excellent service
The lava cake was delicious, it has a taste of citrus, combined well with the chocolate

Used to love getting cakes from here but seems like they really cut down on the quality of everything?? Service was slow, customer service was sub par and the packaging is significantly cheaper than before for cakes that are about $50-$70..

This place completely failed to deliver a good afternoon tea experience. Despite booking a week in advance, the front-of-house staff member claimed they didn’t realize we had a reservation because we “didn’t write it in the comments we were doing afternoon tea.” Why else would we make a reservation? Very few people would make a reservation for just sitting down to drink a coffee, it's obvious it would be for afternoon tea. Instead of taking responsibility, she insinuated it was our mistake, which already set a bad tone. We had to wait over half an hour for everything to be prepared and were essentially told to just sit there and wait, even though we were the only customers there. She suggested we could order from their menu while waiting—but at full price, nothing to make up for the mistake. They could have easily informed us when they called two minutes before our appointment asking if we were doing afternoon tea, to delay our arrival or offered something complimentary during the wait. Portions for jam and clotted cream were insufficient for more than two people, and she told us we’d be charged extra if we wanted more. Complete lack of understanding of customer service. It took more convincing for us to get extra.

A friend mentioned this place once scolded her family for being late to the reservation, yet for our case, they weren’t prepared even when we arrived on time. To top it off, the tea itself was tasteless, which is ironic for a place focused on afternoon tea. I used to enjoy Ruelo’s cakes especially over a decade ago it was my favourite bakery and I liked the owner, but the service at this location needs serious improvement. I guess they've given up on customer service or understanding the customers perspective. Don't blame the customers for your mistake. It feels like they've given up, at least the service is pretty terrible.

Heads up! You might have the wrong number attached to this location.

Person answered, confirmed location would be open today and it wasn’t. When i called back they did not answer. I will be going to the Times Square location

The cafe is so cute and there’s so many options of dessert, pastries and cupcakes. Their lattes are pretty good as well. Can’t wait to try one of their baking classes one day

The coffee was delicious, and the cake was incredibly moist and flavorful. The owner was very friendly and welcoming, which added to the pleasant atmosphere. It was a quiet and relaxing place to enjoy a coffee and a treat. The shop was also very clean and well-maintained. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful spot to unwind.

Not sure why so many negative reviews. The place was so nice inside and the cakes are so pretty and tasty. It was made just like the picture. Not too sweet and price is decent. The only complaint I'd have is they don't fully read the instructions when I ordered online. I said to write a message and they just gave me the cake without one but they ended up writing one anyways when I picked it up.

I attended a two-day course at Ruelo recently, taught by a well-known French pastry chef. The class was advertised as a Masterclass and cost $1130 for 2 days. I have taken courses like this before and they are usually hands-on. However, this was a demonstration, with the Chef calling us to the front in turns, and for the majority of the time, we were sitting and watching. To make things worse, much of the work was done in the back, where we were not allowed to go.

I did not receive any information leading up to the event, to tell us how to dress, what we should bring, or even the starting and ending times. The lunch on both days was minimal, just small shared salads and croissants. The only beverage offered was coffee. I attended a less expensive workshop last year in Montreal and everyone pre-ordered and received a boxed lunch with a drink, both days--cost was included.

Although the Chef is very talented, his people skills were not good. He seemed unhappy to be there, and acted as if the location and students were not up to his standards--several times he showed annoyance. A few times he purposely tried to embarrass students for their lack of expertise and experience, even though we were there to learn from him. By the end, barely anyone wanted to work with him at the front. It was similar to bullying, and he seemed to look down on Canadians.

Although they cut and distributed the products that we made in class, it was only after another student requested that they do so. In other classes, it is a given that you will take home what you made.

I would avoid taking any professional level classes at this place, unless they guarantee that it will be fully hands-on and participants will be treated respectfully.
