It’s hard to eat sushi anywhere else after you try sushi at Taro’s.
The fish is the freshest I’ve ever had and I’ve been eating sushi/sashimi for 20yrs! This is comparable to high end omakase restaurants. The flavour of the fish stood out too, sometimes I’ve had fresh but not flavourful fish at other places but here, you get both. The rice to fish ratio was perfect as well. The wasabi and ginger are real and also very yummy. I’ve been twice, looking forward to trying the Markham location.

As a loyal customer for several years, first time I heard the staff shouted at me and used Mandarin saying I had mental issue because of ordering too much sushi rice. Very interesting service.
Surprising from a Japanese food store

First time to try their sushi, quality was so much better than those from the grocery stores! I will definitely return to try other sushi.
You can even buy fresh sashimi from their. They have a open kitchen, you can watch how the chefs making sushi! It's a takeaway store, no seating inside.
Very close to ttc, some parking here too
i used to love this place I had 5 star review for them few years back. They ownership changed…fish is no longer the good quality. Ordered a sashimi rice … th fish felt like they were out from the freezer. It was frozen hard. It’s unacceptable.

Is this place even Japanese-owned anymore? Went inside and the workers and what seems to be the shift manager are all Mandarin speakers. One of Taro's marketing schtick is that it's Japanese-ran and owned, which is why the quality of the fish is supposedly unparallel. I guess I'll head back to J town.
Nice find with very fresh food and native Japanese people.

Much cheaper and fresher salmon sashimi than you can get at most Toronto restaurants and markets. The chutoro nigiri is also a solid option as well and better than some omakase places we've been to in the city. Definitely recommend visiting this market.

I love it there🙃The sushi is very tasty and fresh and you can have it prepared as you wish.
It’s the first time we have tried to order the sashimi from Taro. It is so fresh with great service. Just crab the sashimi you want from the fridge you want and the staff will slice it and pack it for you professionally. I recommend the blue fin tuna and pick the Otoro (my all time favourite). Yet, it is expensive but it worth every dime you paid.

A true Japanese fish shop in North York, operated by experienced Japanese chefs. The uni here was absolutely amazing — quite expensive, but worth every dollar for the incredible flavor. All the sashimi was exceptionally fresh and chewy in the best way. Highly recommend buying sashimi with sushi rice instead of going for sushi or rolls.🤗

They do carry quite a lot of authentic Japanese items beside the fish in their store. I ordered a premium nigiri set which was rather disappointing. The fish itself was fine but wasn't impressive in anyway. However the rice just ruined everything. The nigiri rice not only lack the vinegary flavor it should have, it's over cooked, over sticky and as dense as if someone makes it out of playdough. I would expect a shop that price itself at medium price range to handle their food with more details.

We've been regular customers and generally liked this place, but lately, it feels like they're cutting corners. We ordered a large sushi combo and were surprised to find barely any wasabi or ginger included — one tray didn’t have any at all. Instead, they now charge extra for items that used to come standard. Miso soup isn’t included, and the seaweed salad portion is very small for $5. For the prices they charge, this feels stingy.
The quality of the food also wasn’t up to the usual standard during our last visit. Unfortunately, this might be our last order — there are other places offering better value for the money. Being cheap on basics is not the way to keep loyal customers. Also atmosphere is not great… the lady manager is always yelling at one of the poor kids making sushi and she is not open to feedback… you just lost a regular customer!
