The flavor of the chicken is 5 star, it was cooked perfectly. The whole chicken we ordered was quite small - not alot of meat. The salad is 5 star as I really love the mixed greens and fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. A little heavy on dressing so just get it on the side.

I honestly had a bad experience here. The rice was way too dry, no vegetables, no flavor – just plain dry rice. The chicken wasn’t cooked properly on the inside which is really concerning. For the price and the hype, I expected way better. Definitely disappointed and won’t be coming bacK.

ordered the half chicken combo plate. rice was sticking together and clearly old. plantains were not ripe at all and chewy. chicken was dry. spent $40 and it was a complete waste. YKO up the street is half the price and 10x better

The OG location on Tompkins didn’t disappoint. Usually go to Dalhousie but was in the neighbourhood and figured I should pay my respects and glad I did. Dinner was 🔥 and absolutely delicious.
I had a great experience at African BBQ House! Hannah and Musa were absolutely amazing — friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect. The service felt warm and genuine, and they really made me feel welcome. The chicken was delicious and full of flavor, and their positive energy made the meal even better. I’ll definitely be coming back!

The first thing that draws you to this place is the smell, then you tastebuds explode with how good the food is. It looks amazing and tastes even better! The meat was juicy and super fresh as well as the salad (I don’t know what they put in their dressing but it is delicious!!!) and I don’t even have words to describe how good the plantain is! Overall totally recommend to try out as I would definitely be coming for more!

Chicken is a bit rubbery and rice a bit soggy. Salad and plantains were really good though. I’ve come here before so I know the food can be 10 times better. I’ll come back again in hopes for better chicken and rice :)
After having Pili Pili on Dalhousie I started looking for something closer to the East end. I tried a few spots then found this place and haven't gone anywhere else.
I only get takeout and the owner that answers the phone provides great service, and the chicken is amazing. The plantain and rice are pretty good too, but the chicken is what I keep craving.
My company recently ordered from African BBQ House in Ottawa. Everyone was blown away by the portions and flavors of the food. The owner and staff were incredible with accommodating my order when given short notice and were extremely friendly. Highly recommended 10/10!
