Had a great time here on a Sunday night. Hard to find good service like that, not showing up at the table asking if we’re all good every 5 minutes but also not disappearing forever - just the perfect amount of service! The Cabernet Sauvignon was some of the best red wine I’ve had in awhile. Atmosphere was perfect for an intimate dinner and drinks. Easy to talk and tables are well spaced so you can conversate with a feeling of privacy. Food prices were very reasonable, drink prices were a bit steeper than expected but totally worth paying for a proper dining experience and a great location.

We hosted our company holiday party at Grey's last week and we had an amazing time. The food, drinks and especially the staff and floor managers were fantastic. The venue was perfect for our holiday party and the team made the night special for us. They were really accommodating for all our needs to ensure we had the perfect night. Thank you, Grey's team!

Not a fan of the automatic gratuity of 20% on the AFTER tax amount.

The atmosphere was good after the new renovations however, service was slow (water was not refilled until asked, food and drinks took a long time to arrive) and the restaurant wasn't even half full. The food was also not great.

Likely won't be back.

I used to love coming here with my friends for cheap drinks and fun vibes, but it has really gone downhill. I can’t see why we’re calling it Grey’s “Social” Eatery when the only socializing being done is from the 7 people dining. I feel like playing the same, boring millennial playlist is definitely driving away your younger crowd, which is probably why you’re closing before 12am on a Saturday night. On a positive note, the food is quite good, specifically the chicken sliders and the servers are nice.

Flavours were great, service was okay but nothing exceptional. Lovely atmosphere to dine in especially for occasions.

We had a reservation for six at Gray Social Eatery and had to leave a credit card deposit to hold the table. I didn’t love that policy but went ahead with it. When we arrived, we mentioned we might be seven and ended up being eight, which triggered an automatic 20% service charge. I understand that’s a business decision, but between that, the deposit, and a few small upcharges, the whole experience started to feel like being nickel-and-dimed.

Service was inconsistent. Our server only seemed to warm up after Patricia Boal (the CTV News anchor) joined the table. Before that, we were left with empty glasses and had to flag people down for drinks. Menus were taken away before we were asked whether we planned to order more, which felt dismissive.

Each person spent around $100. My own bill was $84, including the automatic gratuity. I normally tip around 25%, but given the lack of attentiveness, I left it at the 20%.

There were a couple of positives. The chef sent over a sample of a new dessert they were testing, which was a nice touch. The calamari itself was fine, though the “cocktail sauce” tasted more like apple cider vinegar. When I asked about it, I was told that’s how they all are, but they did offer an aioli instead—then charged an extra dollar for it.

Between having to grab our own chairs, the uneven service, and the added fees, it wasn’t an experience I’d repeat. Probably a three-star visit overall.

I could’ve given 0 stars if possible, we went there excited only to sit for 20 mins and nobody asking us our order, they completely ignored us and we had to leave the place, I do not recommend

The Eatery is in the heart of Ottawa’s Byward Market, the main tourist area. Four of us went in and had a good meal. The service was friendly and quick and the music low enough that we could talk easily. I had the excellent seated tuna bowl and shared a bottle of decently-priced white wine with a colleague. The only drawback, oddly enough, was the very low lighting. But I am sure I will be back.

This place didn’t appear on any searches, but we were disappointed by other menu options. Walking around found Grey’s. Menu is varied, it looked good from outside, so we went in. We had missed happy hour for cocktails but not half price wine on Wednesday’s. We shared cauliflower bits for stater, huge portion and delicious. Mains were good size too, chicken supreme was a great choice. Friendly staff who were happy to talk through menu options.
