The hostess was pleasantly accommodating and flexible as we were slightly late for our reservation due to a local power outage. Friendly, attentive staff. Our waiter ensured we got out in time for our show. Food was hot and tasty. The only improvements could have been to the caesar salad, as it lacked flavour and the blue cheese topping on the steak, which might be better if the topping was chunkier. Overall, we had a very pleasant visit. Would recommend, as they are a very consistent good choice.

Was very busy when we arrived at 6:30 on a Sunday. Parking lot was packed! We maybe waited 5min, before being seated. Service was excellent and food was fantastic.

Went for supper with my family. I had escargot & a 20 oz Rib-eye steak with baked potato. Steak was cooked to perfection & the baked potato came with bacon, onion & sour cream. The waiter was super polite & attentive....Everyone else enjoyed their meals. My only complaint would be that there were too many hostesses standing around gabbing & the restaurant itself isn't as nice as the one off of Richmond Rd. Not a cheap dinner either but at least it was worth the price.

I do not write reviews casually, and I do not do so out of impulse. We were visiting from out of town and chose this location of The Keg because we have dined at this brand many times over the years and have generally found it dependable in both service and food quality. This particular visit, however, raised several concerns that I feel are important to document.

We were quoted a wait time of approximately thirty five to forty five minutes, which was reasonable and not an issue for us. We waited in the bar area, ordered appetizers and drinks, and were content to do so. After roughly an hour, we inquired about our table and were told we were next. Over the following hour, we observed multiple parties who arrived after us being seated. After two additional inquiries and a total wait of two hours, it became clear that we had been overlooked. At that stage, we should have left, but we chose to stay.

Our table service was handled by Anna, and this is where the experience became notably problematic. I am particularly attentive to matters of safety, attentiveness, and professional standards. A shellfish allergy was communicated clearly, yet it did not appear to be acknowledged or retained. This is not a minor lapse, as failures in this area can have serious consequences.

Throughout the meal, Anna appeared distracted and insufficiently engaged with her responsibilities. Her demeanor felt unprofessional, and she demonstrated limited familiarity with the wine list. The wine was forgotten entirely and only served after being requested again, at which point it arrived simultaneously with the main courses. When we ordered a second bottle, it was placed on the table unopened while she walked away to socialize in the kitchen area.

There were also hygiene related concerns that should not be dismissed. Her thumb made contact with our food while serving, and there was a noticeable odor on her breath that suggested a lack of basic front of house awareness. In a restaurant of this caliber, these details are not trivial.

Most concerning was the overall impression that she was not fully attentive or present. I will not speculate as to the reason, but from a guest’s perspective, her level of focus was insufficient for a role that requires constant awareness and care.

Regarding the food, the filet was acceptable but unremarkable. The prime rib, which was the primary reason for our visit, was deeply disappointing. While we understand and appreciate that prime rib is intended to be fatty.

My husband is a restaurateur in Ottawa, and we are well aware of the pressures inherent in this industry. Nonetheless, professional standards exist for a reason. I strongly recommend that management review both the front of house operations that evening and Anna’s readiness to be serving guests.

I am offering this feedback because issues involving safety, hygiene, and professionalism should be addressed, not overlooked. I hope it is received constructively and used to improve the experience for future guests. Quality and accountability matter.
