Great seafood restaurant with super friendly staff and a good location. It is a very small/intimate restauraunt, definitely make reservations. They do bulk oyster specials that include oysters from across Canada.

Fantastic experience! I can’t think if anything that could be improved upon. The oysters and fish were probably the freshest I’ve ever had. Taste was amazing! Overall a wonderful meal and one that I hope to repeat very soon.

A perfect dining experience in every way. We’ve eaten at Michelin Star restaurants that were as good. Service- Excellent, Ambience-Excellent, Food- Superb This is a low key place. Not flashy - bar like and comfortable. But you WILL love the food The staff will deliver every course in the same way - not flashy but comfortable. The food. we had steak tartar… Seasoned perfectly just a bit of a kick. Clam chowder one of the best I’ve ever had… nothing about it was overpowering a perfect balance of seafood, potato, and cream base. Blackened salmon - skin just right - cooked perfectly - rice and corn relish were as tasty as it gets. And the carrot cake…. OMG. We love carrot cake and this one was perfection in own way.

Absolutely hands-down one of the best restaurants in the city. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is laid back, and effortlessly cool — the kind of place where every night feels like an occasion. The chefs are Michelin-level talented, with every dish beautifully executed, incredibly fresh, and packed with flavour. The energy is always fun, lively, and welcoming, making it perfect for everything from date nights to celebrations with friends. Worth every penny and genuinely never disappointing. Very disappointed! Started with a big speech about their specials.. they could not tell me where the salmon came from (wild or farmed), the server asked the chef, and even he didn’t know! We asked for a wine that would pair well. Told all the wines paired well (I guess I’m a moron??). Proceeded to order the special which we were told had little bones… it was full of bones! Also not enough for two people as promised. Bad experience. Shameful.

We dined at The Whalesbone on Bank Street in Ottawa, and it was an absolutely outstanding experience. I had the breaded haddock sandwich, quite simply the best fish sandwich I've ever had. The corn on the cob, prepared Mexican street-style with cotija cheese, was equally extraordinary and the best I've ever tasted. The octopus was beautifully prepared and very good, and the carrot cake was one of the best versions I've had in a long time. The food, service, and atmosphere were all exceptional. This ranks among the best meals and dining experiences I've had in a long time. The Whalesbone comes with my highest recommendation.

Early dinner prior to a show at the NAC. Food was excellent and served in a timely manner. However, we kept being approached to remove the platter and clear plates prior to both diners finishing their meals. It was rushed and annoying. We were within our 2 hour time limit for the reservation and the restaurant had plenty of available seating.

Great food, great service, but I will say, it was so loud my girlfriend and I couldn’t hear eachother the entire time from across the table. Still, food and servers were great, just was not ready for that much yelling around me for a fancy restaurant.
