Food was good but service was terrible. Never received my appetizer and they lied to me and made up qn excuse when they clearly forgot to order from the kitchen. No apologies, just a lie that they bring out the appetizer after the meal when only one person orders an appetizer. Maybe I ordered it foe the whole table? They have no idea. Had ro wait 45 minutes for our meal as it was. Won't be returning.

Sept 26, 2025 Our food selection was wonderful with the exception of the Baguette with Olive Oil & Balsamic vinegar. Served in a bowl not on a flat plate for the correct mix. The service was extremely poor from start to finish. Long wait to order, even longer wait for the food, no coffee top up and another delay between the bill & payment. Made the trip from out of town on a recommendation. Very disappointing.

Was there August 24 with a large group. Had only one server for 18 people. Everyone had ordered by 7:10. No food came out till 8:45. I ordered a drink and it took 45 minutes to get it. Told them no sauce on steak for children but it came with sauce. Food not very good. Then they had the nerve to add their own tip to the bill. Worst experience I have had at a restaurant. We never got out of there till 9:45. We had people who still had to drive to Mississauga and Toronto and had kids. I would never ever recommend this restaurant to anyone.

A great restaurant in the Waddell Hotel. Comfortable space with warm decor that is a nod to the past.
Seating and service were quick and efficient, our server was especially nice, and very helpful. (Read patient)
They offer a substantial menu with many choices. We had the Brussels sprouts appetizer which was perfectly prepared and full of flavour.
We followed up with the house pizza, and the Rigatoni a la Vodka with the best Rose sauce I've had in some time. Both excellent.
A lovely drive to Port Hope for a fine lunch or dinner makes a great day for us. We thoroughly enjoyed Trattoria Gusto. Put them on your list. Great spot for date night or celebration.

May family and I been here a few times. The first time was perfection! Second time, the food was good, but the restaurant had definitely gone down in cleanliness and the staff wasn’t as knowledgable or on point. Took my daughter‘s father yesterday for his birthday. When I booked the reservation, I asked if they do anything for birthday. I was told that they do. I asked if that would be done before we paid the bill and that I wanted it to be a surprise. I was assured it would be. The restaurant was very hot so they had the door open. It is the salmon run right now, so the smell of dead fish was all throughout the restaurant. Not to mention the numerous flies flying around during the whole meal. The food is always good, but yesterday we noticed all three dishes were lukewarm at best. When we were done our waitress who seemed very new (neglected to tell us the specials at first and also neglected to tell us that the Tomahawk pork wasn’t available until we tried to order it) came and cleared our table and then asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. I tried to make eye contact with her to see if she knew that she would be bringing out the birthday dessert. She said she’d be right back. She brought me the bill and machine. No mention of dessert or that it was someone’s birthday. Restaurant has definitely gone downhill from what it once was. Will not be back and will not be recommending, as I once did.

The food was excellent, but the service left much to be desired: 1. The staff didn’t remember which dish belonged to whom when serving. 2. Plates from the previous course weren’t cleared before the next dishes arrived. 3. When offering water at the start, they didn’t pour it into the glasses. 4. When I asked for a refill, the server rolled their eyes and set the bottle down on the table abruptly.

Last night we ordered a nice red wine and Nisa suggested a wine they just got in and it was amazing. Trattoria Gusto is hands down my favorite restaurant in Port Hope. Every visit feels special—the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the service is always attentive without being overbearing.
Their Chianti is absolutely perfect, smooth and rich, and pairs beautifully with the food. My go-to dish is the chicken parmigiana—it’s easily the best I’ve ever had. Crispy on the outside, tender inside, with just the right amount of sauce and cheese. It’s comfort food elevated to another level.
Whether it’s a casual night out or a special occasion, Trattoria Gusto never disappoints. A true gem in Port Hope!
