Today was my first time there. My friends and I ordered six different hot drinks. All three of them were only warm and none of them were hot, which was unacceptable. I’m sure I won’t come back here again.??

I’ve been coming to boxcar for a while, but I had the worst day ever yesterday. The staff went the extra mile to make it better!Always playing amazing music, ambience is 10/10 upstairs and downstairs, great drinks & wine, and staff that are genuinely nice people.Atmosphere would be 5/5 but the building isn’t wheelchair/disability accessible <\3

I love this cafe for its hours during the week.Their coffee is average I did have both very well made and very sour tasting coffee here before. I am not fan of their beans but also depending on the barista the experience changes. If you plan to work or study here you might have a problem with internet connection. I’ve never had stable connection on the second floor but it’s not a big deal for me.It’s just amazing for the different vibes it gives on the second floor, two sections of main floor and the patio. I like the atmosphere every time. Also, the washrooms are always clean and the soap smells so nice ?

The coffee doesn't disappoint and drinks are made well. Service is inconsistent - good sometimes and terrible on other days. A great space but wi-fi isn't reliable so not the best to work from remotely if you require internet access. In the evenings, it's a cozy spot for a glass of wine and social time. They offer a variety of beverages with NA options too.

One of my favorite places to write/study in the core. The food and drinks are pretty pricey but very delicious. The tip options start at 18%...for picking up coffee. Kind of ridiculous. Other than that, boxcar has a pleasant atmosphere with lots of cool places to sit. Also, it always smells really nice, which weirdly motivates you to focus.

Nice cafe with seating available on two floors. A little narrow and small especially the stairs and certainly an expensive cafe.

I love this place to have catch ups with friends and I really appreciate the fact that they close late (for Toronto parameters) and the service is always kind.

I was so excited and had high expectations bc of their reviews and photos. But it was just disappointing. Both baristas just have an indifferent attitude. Not friendly at all, did not greet me, did not say enjoy ur drink, or even say bye. For a cafe you would expect a more welcoming atmosphere. The matcha latte is good. Not sweet - just right. Also, the space has low lighting at night so beware if u’re coming in at night to study/work.

Good coffee! Wrong timing for us as it was full and a little too crowded for people who’re looking for a nice place to relax with a cuppa! Didn’t get to try any food.

I don't eat here, the coffee itself from what I've had is okay, the service is usually very good & a shop being located within a house instead of traditional boxy retail space is always great however there are some improvements that could take this place over the top.1. Get more syrups. Only having vanilla syrup when Balzacs, Jimmy's & several other competing chains carry staples such as caramel & hazelnut as well as wacky flavours like raspberry, peppermint, rhubarb (for sickos?????) etc is SUCH a missed opportunity to score points with customers.2.Again I love that this place is located within a house, as this ensures that the overall vibes are cosy & immaculate. That being said, it is a very old house & almost everywhere you look (ESPECIALLY UPSTAIRS) there is evidence that at one point someone gave this place the "landlord special" (google that phrase & look at the images...or look at this if you dare https://images.app.goo.gl/rSA6BimfT8sad6Tq9). The spot could use a bit of refinement from professionals. The windows could use some dusting/cleaning as well both on the outside & inside.3.A new bannister for the stairs would be great...the current one is just a long...thing that doesn't really seem to be all that safe or reliable. I would like to go Patrick Star-mode & FIRMLY GRASP IT but its too weirdly embedded in the wall for me to do so.4.Upstairs needs better lighting in the "den" area. Install an electronic chandelier in there perhaps or one of those round japanese pendant lights thats all the rage on instagram.5.Get air conditioning/heating for upstairs...just some sort of way to regulate the temperature better.6. Maybe a few more rustic decorations (some inoffensive vintage photos of boxcars might do the trick).7.At least one more electrical outlet upstairs (or a power bar that you can fasten somewhere to prevent theft.)8.This place will sell you whisky but not gin...this is a crime! please fix! With these improvements , combined with the great current staff & service...this place will become perfect!

Great coffee and atmosphere. I went during the weekend and they allowed me to sit inside with my big dog, extra points for being dog friendly.Just don’t allow your dogs to climb the furniture.I ordered Mocha and a ham and cheese croissant, so tasty. Will definitely come back.
