so, so, good. the wait in between openings is sometimes too hard to bear.
Nothing can beat the cake-by-the-pound chocolate cake. Moist and packed with flavour. A nice bonus is that the cake itself is dairy free, so if you are willing to not eat the icing top (very yummy, but NOT dairy free) it can still be a treat for lactose intolerant folks.

Amazing food, albeit a little pricey, but worth it. The store does feel a little homey and earthy, and i like that. Wish they had longer operating hours and a place for me to park my caboose and watch as they putter about the kitchen.

My first time hearing about Hummingbird Cake, and I was immediately enamoured by its soft, moist banana cake texture that contains bits of banana and pineapple inside, spiced with a whiff of cinnamon. The cream cheese frosting is surprisingly light, especially with a subtle addition of lemon and the nutty crunch of the walnuts. Another thing not to miss is their miso peanut butter cookie, expertly balancing the savoriness of the peanut butter and miso with the rich, sweet butteriness.
They serve a variety of delicious and freshly made treats from a counter - there is no seating and you may have to wait outside when there's a line. Service is quick and friendly. There's no prompt to tip, which is a personal preference of mine, especially for this type of establishment.
I've personally tried the hummingbird cake, which is a spiced banana bread cake ($/per pound), tahini brownie and lemon tart (both under 5$ for large square ). They were delicious. The spiced cake has too much icing, but you can scrape it off to preference. I also found the bottom on the tart a bit thick, so cut that down a little too. I saw some gluten friendly options on the counter and some loaves of bread in the 8$ range, but haven't tasted either.
It has quickly become my new to-go bakery on Danforth East.

City Bakers Collective is the absolute best bakery in Toronto! Everything I’ve ever had has been 100/100. It’s always super fresh and incredibly priced for the quality. The owners are some of the nicest people in the world. You can tell they take care of their staff as the vibe is just full of love every time you walk in. They always make you feel super welcome and at homeS We even ordered 100 pies for a client drop off in October and everyone was raving about how it was the best pie they’ve ever had. We are City Bakers Collective fans for LIFE! (And they didn’t even pay me in pie to say this lol!!)

I love this bakery!! I regularly pick up baked goods when I'm bringing dessert to a friend's, or when we have people over. (well, not as REGULARLY as I'd like, ha-ha) Everything is delicious!! I also love that I can grab a loaf of sourdough from Blackbird here. Top favourites would be any of the cookies (but really, get the Cowboy ones) or squares - but they make a perfect chocolate cake by the pound that is THE BEST. Heavy on the icing, but none ever gets left on the plate. Have also tried their meat or veggie pies, which are delicious as well.

Absolutely LOVE this spot! A small and unassuming little store front that can be easy to miss at first, but once you try it you feel like you’ve discovered a true hidden treasure.
Ever since I discovered it I frequent it all the time! Both the sweet and savoury items are so fresh and amazing! Their lentil shepherds pie, lemon bar and Chicken pasties are some of my favourites! I am never disappointed by anything I’ve gotten here and highly recommend it to anyone who is passing by the area.
