Inviting, laidback setting. Choice of indoor or outdoor tables in sun or shade. You’ll see an abundance of cute dogs out on their walks as well as cyclists in this residential area.
Lots of wi-fi, baked goods and tasty coffee. Croissants sold out; eggs cups might be less fresh.
The service is good but might be an adjustment because of quiet, subdued manner. Recommended!
A lovely little coffee shop in a beautiful, peaceful area, perfect for starting the day. The coffee is rich and delicious, the baked goods are fresh and flavourful. Prices are reasonable. The cozy patio adds to the charm, making it a great spot to relax or catch up with a friend. Highly recommend!
Really great pastry, I ordered an iced dirty chai and didn’t really get any chai flavour but still enjoyed the coffee. The guy at the till didn’t say anything to me at all while I ordered, which I found rude but slightly entertaining - not sure if it’s the culture here or just him having a bad day but I enjoyed pondering about it while sitting outside. I would return xo
Great service. Super friendly. Awesome croissants
Good coffee
Good food offerings
Great pastries. Worth the wait.
coffee is superior; pastries are excellent. i would have the clementine cake every day of the week if i could. perfect neighbourhood coffee shop tucked away on shaw st. vibes are good, staff are kind, patio is beautiful in nice weather. worth stopping in at (again & again 😉) if you’re in the area.
Really enjoy this cafe. Coffee is great. My wife loves the matcha latte and we always get a breakfast sandwich. The other baked goods are also tasty
Best coffee shop in my neighborhood 😋
My 6 year old son and I come here at least twice a week. Great coffee, excellent pastries and unsurpassed service. We’re so lucky to have Contra in our neighbourhood.

Tried their coffee and croissant for the first time today, and both were good. The young lady who took my order, Valerie, was very pleasant.
The music was not loud and was just at the right volume. It was also playing soft music.
The space is a bit small made up of 8 tables for two (you can put 4 tables together on a one side only to accommodate more people as the other side is only table for 2 that you cannot join as there are within 1 meter of where people line up to order.
Overall good experience
Much love from the Shaw neighbourhood, just moved here from Germany and honestly, this Café gives you a whole experience, its not only just coffee. Let me explain this: You wake up after the club, you feel dizzy and just want to enjoy the rest of the day, the way to Contra is lovely, shaw is a very beautiful street I really love it. This Cafè just tries to keep your life simple and its fun to see how crowded it always is. I havent tried much from them, but all I can say coffee is lovely and the salt chocolate cookie is bussin. You should try if you want to let go from a stressful day just take your time and go to Contra.
Cute patio, very nice coffee and great baked goods. Also the people working there are very nice.
Confused about how this place has such a high rating. The coffee is okay, and it is cute with a nice patio. Besides that, it was surprisingly bad and way too expensive for what it is. The staff seemed very unorganized and unsure of their every move.
Contra Cafe is a Toronto gem. Every baked good is scrumptious, and the baristas pull an excellent cappuccino. The pistachio cookies are out of this world, and the granola is craveable. If you are in the GTA, this is a must visit spot.
