I’ve been there twice, and I enjoyed my time both times. Great atmosphere and very nice service! We asked our server for taco recommendations, and we really loved his suggestions. The tacos were delicious, and the drinks were great too. If you love Mexican food, I definitely recommend this place.

My boyfriend and I absolutely love El Rey. It has quickly become one of our favorite spots to go together for drinks, and it feels like a special place for us. The atmosphere is always warm and inviting, and we really appreciate how the bar is constantly innovating with its menu. I especially loved La Lavandería. It was one of my favorite cocktails and I was sad to see it go because it was absolutely delicious. Still, it’s amazing to see the creativity and passion that always go into the new offerings. El Rey truly never disappoints.

I have to say I really enjoyed this place. We found it kind of last minute while checking out places to eat in Kensington. While you can definitely find cheaper drinks around the city, I really thought the drinks here were very tasty, and coming from the US, the price was comparable to try US. Every dish we had was fantastic, and even dishes that sounded simple and plain like the cucumbers packed a lot of flavor! My favorite were the fish tacos, which were packed with flavor and surprisingly hearty. Would definitely be back!
Great cocktails, but tacos could be improved for the price point. But atmosphere is great as is the service, if you’re going try the Al Pastor tacos but avoid the chicken one as they were on the more bland side. Regardless a great place in Kensington

Visited El Rey after a day downtown with my daughter and granddaughter. We first met Neil and Jeremy on the patio, they were welcoming and helped make our granddaughter comfortable - a hangry toddler!
Allie was our server, she is delightful, attentive and made our visit a joy.
Drinks were excellent I had the Open Water cocktail, it was refreshing and well balanced
We loved the Crispy Squid Tacos, Birria Quesadillas, Guacamole and Chips, and Shrimp Cocktail special. They even made the little one a simple chicken and cheese soft taco.
Sitting on the patio in Kensington Market was exciting, with so much to see.
Great spot for tasty food, good drinks, and friendly service. We’ll be back!

Great drinks, extremely mediocre food. I have good memories of this place serving great food. That, unfortunately, was not my experience tonight. The few things we ordered were doused in overpowering sauces and over cooked. Great location and atmosphere, and excellent cocktails but will not be coming back for the food!
