This place is always incredible. We consider it a family tradition at this point. Delicious, retro quirky fun!

I didn’t think I’d find myself writing a poor review for this place, but here we are. I won’t comment on the food, because we ended up walking out before having dinner, but the hostess was utterly disinterested in providing any semblance of customer service. Acted as if we were a huge bother to her the entire time.
I had been to this place before and I loved the food, so while in town , I recommended it to my friend and we decided to have dinner there. It was an extremely busy night and the restaurant was full to the brim , so when we walked in and the hostess informed us it was gonna be a 20 minute wait , I had no issues with that, totally understandable given how busy it was. I said that ok, if she could pencil us in, we’d be back in 20 minutes. She retorted that no, it was not an option, we’d need to wait there. Not ideal but … ok, we can wait.
Now, for some context, this is a very old and cramped joint. Space is not something they have a ton of. The entrance area could fit 3 to 4 people on a good day.
Having that in mind, I told the hostess that ok, we were gonna wait there, we were just gonna step outside. Apparently that was the wrong thing to say, because she told me no, we couldn’t do that, and I quote “I’m not going outside to call your names”. Mind you, the “outside” is 3 meters away from her station. I was annoyed at this point but still complied. 2 minutes go by and we are obviously in the way of people coming in and out , so she asks us to step to the side of her station (which is an even tinier space), and we do, and we just continue chatting with each other. Apparently, yet again, we were not standing in the “correct” spot for her so she tells us (not asks, tells) to stand next to each other (basically backs to the wall that separates the walkway from the dining room). That was pretty much my breaking point and we just walked out. I don’t care how good the food is, when the staff makes you feel unwelcome from the moment you walk in, this is not a place that deserves mine or anyone else’s business. I would not make the mistake of recommending it again.

It ended up being a blessing in disguise because we went to the Italian restaurant at the mall across the street and the service and the food there were impeccable, I had one of the best pizzas in my life. So do yourself a favor and perhaps consider the Italian restaurant first.

Just recently had lunch at Frans after the marathon yesterday. The food was good. However, my girlfriend had to go to the bathroom. They only have one bathroom and you need a code to get in. Once inside, she noticed that there was a man waiting for a cubicle. Apparently, the bathrooms are shared by both men and women which made her very uncomfortable. What would happen if a man assaulted a woman in the bathroom. The restaurant would be liable. The doors on the cubicle go from ceiling to floor. So this could happen and nobody would know until someone exited the cubicle. In order to safeguard customers and their business I would suggest they spend a little money and create two bathrooms.

Was visiting downtown Toronto today from Montreal and stopped in at Fran’s Restaurant on Victoria’s street for lunch. Food, atmosphere and service was excellent! Our server Noah was knowledgeable, friendly with a wonderful sense of humour, which made our dining experience memorable! We will definitely be back! Thank you Noah!

Tyler was super slow and prioritized menial tasks over service. Restaurant was about 1/3 Capacity... plenty of staff. He left us waiting 7-10 mins to be sat (lots of clean empty tables and no one else waiting), forgot our food orders, brought the wrong drink... waited another 10+ just for the cheque. Food was good as always. (Per owner note: Yes, This was College Street)
