I can’t give 5 stars due to the pork cutlets was so hard to chew.
Order pork cutlets with omelette rice.
Curry was tasty, omelette is very soft.
Comes with small clear soup also tasty.
Pork cutlets look so good but it was so hard and dry. Probably fried too long, look at the colour of pork is so brown.
I couldn’t chew or bite it by my teeth so I only ate couple pieces.
Also ordered scallops salad for $5. It was ok for this price.
Other things is if you look at the menu on their front store and decide to go in because you see the price. PLEASE see the menu inside again because they did not update the price.
I thought it about $17-20 but it’s not.
Totally end up paying almost $40 for one quick meal.
The portion is reasonable.
Atmosphere is ok for quick lunch stop.
Try again??? Maybe with other dishes but not with pork cutlets looks.❌❌❌

Ever since the new ownership, the food quality has gone to shit. I thought i was going crazy because i would order from this place 3-4 times a week and since the summer, everything tasted bad compared to before. But then, i learned there was new ownership and that explains everything. No longer one of my favourite restaurants and they will not be getting my business anymore unfortunately.

We ordered chicken katsu, popcorn chicken and karaage. It fulfilled the craving and was good enough. There is definitely better chicken in Toronto though.
The server was lovely. The space was clean and well maintained.
Also, who is Tyler?

I had such a lovely time at Gyugyuya again — it instantly brought me back to my uni days! The food was comforting as always, rich and full of flavor, and the cozy vibe made me feel right at home. Nothing beats that classic curry aroma in downtown Toronto 🍛💛

Got the Chicken Katsu Curry and it was amazing — super flavorful and perfectly cooked. Service was friendly and quick, and the atmosphere was really nice. Overall, a great spot with very fair prices. Highly recommended!

I visited Gyugyuya after their renovation and menu update. This spot has been around since 2013 and is still one of Toronto’s best places for Japanese curry.
I tried the Omelet Curry, Tonkatsu Curry, Takoyaki, and Chicken Karaage. The omelet curry was soft and comforting, especially with the crunchy red pickles. The tonkatsu was crispy and juicy, and the takoyaki and karaage were both classic and tasty. Portions are still generous, and the Gyu Gyu King Curry is still available.
The interior has changed from its signature bright-yellow walls to a more modern, minimalist look. The curry itself is a little sweeter and heavier than before, but overall still delicious and worth visiting. Perfect for both solo diners and small groups.

I enjoyed the chicken katsu curry for lunch which came with a small salad and onion soup. The curry tasted classic and authentic. The katsu was crispy and tender. Overall, a solid comfort meal that didn’t really stand out compared to other katsu curry I’ve had before. It’s a good spot for a quick lunch but I think there are better places if you’re looking for a more exceptional dish.

Pretty yummy katsu for a very good location, when you are craving some katsu after work or coming to downtown it’s right on the St Patrick station. Lots of variety and recently renovated space feels very much welcoming. Food gets to the table really fast so really good for those in a rush as well.
Recommend the chicken katsu, the pork is abit harder and less flavourful compared to the chicken. Pork katsu also fells off the fry breading abit easier than the chicken. Overall good sides and curry pairing with the protein. Satisfying meal for the price.
Lots of seating options good for incidental, friends and family, quite accessible at the main level but the washroom not so much just as many other Toronto downtown restaurants, it’s set of stairs down the basement.
Would recommend to any travellers or regulars. Is it best katsu in Toronto? Probably not, but won’t feel disappointed. Not busy place so again no reservation needed is a plus for those just wanna walk-ins!

Such great curry! The tonkatsu needs some extra flavour with the sauce, but otherwise so worth it! The portions are great!

I had such a great time at Gyugyuya in downtown Toronto! The food was so tasty, rich, flavorful, and felt really authentic. The staff were super friendly and made me feel right at home. The place itself is cozy and has a nice vibe, which made the whole experience even better. It brought back a lot of nostalgia for me, and I left not just full but really happy. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for good food and a warm atmosphere!
