The guy working the cash tried unsuccessfully to charge me 20% more for requesting Curley fries for my poutine, tried to tell me they were more expensive and then they made my poutine with deep fried cheese curds which I didn’t ask for or want. Worst experience and really bad poutine, deep fried cheese curds may be good on their own but keep them off my poutine what a waste of money.

Halibut and chips was dry and over cooked and not worth the price I paid. I asked when the oil was last changed and one of the guys with the long side burns said it never gets changed. I could taste the old oil with the chips. Would not recommend.

I don't know what happened in the move from Queen West to the Well but it's not good. The fish tacos are ok but the halibut is a sad sad shadow of itself these days. I was a weekly regular on Queen but I guess at the Well (this goes for all the food court btw) nobody needs to try too hard cause, well (no pun intended) Toronto loves mid.

My family and I went to Hookys in The Well. Right off the bat we were almost overcharged $10 from what I assume was a forced attempt at a tip. I stated that for 2 Crabbie Patties for $12 even and a fries for $6 something shouldnt cost $43? The person running the till changed something (I dont know what) and the bill came to $32 before tax which they then stated "does that look better to you". Then we got our food. The crabbie pattys for lack of a better word SUCKED. Spongebob would be ashamed if he knew hookys was serving up tht garbage and having it be called a crabbie patty! All in all the whole experience wasnt great. Fries were ok at best. Skip this place as there are so many better options.

A classic fish and chips place, the fries were a bit soggy, but the fish was really good. And also serve Halal options.

It's ok, is really the most accurate I can be. It doesn't really hit the spot if you're craving good fish and chips. The fish is ok and the chips are ok. The breaded scallops are also decent, but not thrilling. However, I have only negative things to say about the tartar sauce and mushy peas. Yikes! Pureed pea juice and a weird mayo sauce bearing little resemblance to tartar. You can get a better fish and chips at any standard pub. I expected more from a specialty spot with decent reviews...

Got the Cod and chips. The portion was good. The fish was good too but the chips was not fresh at all. Hope they see my review and address.

Very mixed feelings, here...
I loved Hooky's when it was near Trinity Bellwoods Park. My absolute favourite was their scallops! They'd batter 'em up (like the fish), and they were like little pockets of heaven!
At the current location, I happened to see a guest with what appeared to be breaded scallops. Not a fan of breading. So I specifically asked, "are the scallops battered or breaded?" A simple question, and I even asked whether the scallops still get battered, same as they do for the fish. After a lot of wiggly responding, I was finally told they're battered. LMK if you can see where this is going...
When I opened my order, I immediately saw they're breaded. Despite my disappointment, I ate them and they were good enough.
Afterward, I went back to the person that I spoke to, and she apologized "for the miscommunication". However, it was a clear question, with what should have been a straightforward answer. She said she was part of Hooky's at the old location, so very experienced. VERY hard to believe she didn't know the correct answer. I feel cheated, and I just cannot understand why the truth was so difficult. It was just one order, so I doubt she lied to me to steal a few bucks.
As I say, the breaded scallops were still good, and the rest of the menu is great. I'm posting this mainly so that ownership will realize what's going on in their shop.
