There's something about Southern food. It might be that it's handled with such care. Maybe it's cooked more slowly. Maybe it's the quality or combination of ingredients. Regardless of the reason, I search far and wide for vegan restaurants that can cook it well. Hogtown Vegan does just that (and in Canada of all places). Hogtown's atmosphere is cool and relaxed. The indoor seating is eclectic. The outdoor seating is simple. We ordered the Mac and Cheese, Poutine Dream (when in Canada, and obviously not a Southern U.S. creation), and Seitan Chicken-fried Steak. Warning: Order light because the portions are hospitable at an affordable price. The Mac and Cheese is light, creamy, with a good level of smoke and spice, and topped with breadcrumbs. The Poutine Dream is smothered with a rosemary gravy that sings. The fried seitan strips, chewy and moist, compound the high achievement of this dish. I wished for vegan curds, but the Daiya cheese is a welcome substitute. The Seitan Chicken-fried Steak was the star of the meal, perfectly breaded and fried with an incredibly complex seitan texture that left me wondering if this was house-made or store-bought. Either way, I need more of this "steak" in my life. I've had Southern food in much of the United States. Aside from maybe one place (now closed forever in the Washington D.C. area), Hogtown Vegan is making a strong case for the best southern creations.
Was pretty disappointed considering this is a well-rated restaurant. Collard greens were super bland which is understandable since the dish relies on its flavor from the meat, but it was SERIOUSLY bland, no salt or anything. Everything else on our plate was just ok. The service was good, wasn't satisfied with the meals.
UnChicken caesar wrap was LOADED with chickn. Delish
I'm not vegan. But this place is fantastic. The fried chicken, greens, and mac combo is delicious.
Had the reuben sandwich with coleslaw. The coleslaw was some of the best I've ever had. The sandwich was delicious and it was definitely filling. Since I was there quite early after they opened I feel like I was missing the vibe of what it's normally like when it's busier. That said I'd probably eat here regularly if I lived in the city - I'd happily work my way through the rest of the menu!
Good portions, down to earth home cooking. Great spot to take non vegans or new vegans!
Hogtown Vegan is my favourite for fun vegan junk food. Amazing wings, nachos, burgers, and more. Favourite meals are either the vegan Philly Cheesesteak. Or the Pulled Unpork sandwich.
The food was great! Especially liked their mac and cheese and chicken. They have good patio seating as well.
I got the southern plate - had a hard time choosing because everything sounded good! It did not disappoint. I’ve had many vegan Mac and cheeze and this was one of the best. Definitely want to try to chikn and waffles. Solid portion sizes, cute vibe, plus cocktail options & dessert - what’s not to love?
Friendly place with Southern comfort good classics.

Amazing southern comfort food. Great crisp on the chicken, creamy Mac and Cheese. Great flavours and fast service.
We were only in Toronto a couple of days and were fortunate enough that this was on our path. We stopped by just for a bite to takeaway and had the buffalo wings with dill ranch. They were beautiful! Whilst we were waiting we saw some of the dishes being delivered to dine in customers and they looked fantastic. Huge portions, fabulous choices.
A great place to try out all vegan typical North American foods! The unchickn waffle is to die for as well as their poutine!
My life is split into two chapters: before the un-chicken waffle from here and after. One of the best dining experiences I've ever had, from the food to the staff and everything in between.
Sweet vegan place , please add slice of tomato to the burgers. Nice location and place
