I ran into this product at grande cheese many years ago when they were selling just the lasagna. At that time it was around $20 and was quite good for the price. Then all of a sudden they were gone from grande and I happened to find them on Rountree dairy Mill. In the past, I have bought some of the products and was amazed at how much the price kept going up. The other day just before Thanksgiving, I happened to be close by and decided to pick up lasagna and some meat cannelloni. The prices have gone through the roof with both the lasagna and the cannelloni being almost $40, $38 and $36. The lasagna is just over 2 kg and the cannelloni is 1.5 kg. So you’re not getting a lot for your money. But I figured since I’ve had them in the past that they might be worth the extra money. Unfortunately, this product is no longer something I will buy simply because the quality and the price do not match. The cannelloni has a purée texture of meat and extremely thick pasta dough. The sauce itself is quite thick and almost like paste and there’s hardly any sauce as well. I actually had to add my own sauce on top of the cannelloni. I personally never had stuffed pasta that has puréed meat similar to cat food in texture. It was very unpleasant. When we tried the lasagna, I was surprised at how little you actually get. There’s only a few layers and very little meat in between. In fact, you’re paying almost $40 for basically four or five layers of pasta. Fortunately, in this case, the dough itself is not overly thick and quite thin and delicate, which is how it’s supposed to be. I’m not sure why people feel this is authentic Italian because from my own personal experience, this is nothing like authentic Italian food. I have to say I’m very surprised that people give this a five star review because Italian food is really nothing like this. If you’re looking for decent Italian food frozen then you might try another brand that grande used to sell called nostra. Their lasagna and their cannelloni are both made of veal compared to the Bretonne one which is made of beef. The Nostra brand also sells a lasagna basically the same size for about $25.
My suggestion is to give the nostra a try either in smaller sizes which are readily available at some local stores or go to the store in Burlington and buy the larger ones similar to the ones at Brettone. From my recollection, the nostra was much better tasting, and certainly much easier on the pocketbook. When I went to Nostra just before they moved to Burlington, I found the new owners to be super nice. Unfortunately, Burlington is a little too far for me and I will probably end up sticking to the smaller portions and having to cook several. I recommend people try the Nostra since readily available but don’t even waste your time on the Brettone which is only available at the store.
Quite a number of things in Woodbridge have gone up in price astronomically, and are banking on past successes to justify their current prices. But they’re totally not worth the price. There’s very little meat in the lasagna. See photos.
Besides Nostra which is available at Metro you can also try
Euro Pasta, Cumbrae's (large $30 or $32 short ribs) or maybe Longos ($24 or less) or Brunos ($30) or even Only Pasta in Woodbridge. Plenty of alternatives and some much cheaper and better and more authentic. While costs have certainly gone up I see no reason for a 100% increase certainly when others are putting out high quality at much lower prices. This reminds me of REA sausages which removed a link of sausage and then to boot raised the price from $6.99 to $8.99 and even higher now. It seems to be a Woodbridge thing to gouge and call it inflation.
Brettone Catering does not disappoint ! The food is packaged in convenient trays, oven ready to cook with clear instructions. The portions are generous and the food is delicious. They have plenty of gluten free options and very affordable. I would highly recommend and will definitely be using their services again!
Frozen products are the best- great value and great taste. As a long time customer, I’ve never been disappointed. We’ll keep going back for more.
Purchased a frozen lasagna and chicken cutlets. Easy to prepare and was very tasty and good.
Have bought the frozen eggplant and chicken parmigiana several times. It never disappoints. Always delicious
After following Brettone on Instagram for sometime I decided to have some food catered for my brother-in-laws family following the death of his beloved mother. We ordered the meat lasagna, Tortellini a la pana, veal parmigiana, chicken breast in mushroom sauce, roasted potatoes and mixed veggies. The food was amazing, plentiful and very fresh and tasty. From the packaging to the simple ordering process everything was seamless. I will definitely order from them again! Thank you Anna!

This catering business is a scam. I ordered two gray boards and paid 1000. Asked for no ham or pork and more sandwiches with turkey and veggies which Ana agreed to. She also agreed to come and set my table up. She arrived with two boards, everything being pork and ham. Buns with a piece of roasted vegetable and onions to hold items that were next to cheese and crackers!! She left the boards in a rush not for me to have time to look at the items. The majority of the boards were all cracker and cheese which I threw out and ordered pizza for everyone. When I called her to discuss she offered 100 towards her catering business, didn’t apologized and said she’s rushed to go to a meeting but did manage to respond to my messages !! Please don’t order from people like her that are not straight forward and honest when it comes to providing service. Her insta post has nothing to do with the boards she brings to your house! Also- she didn’t come to pick up her boards I had to call her few days after the event when all my garage was filled with fruit flies. Worst catering experience I’ve ever had.
❤️
