Nice small portuguese bakery to get fresh brad or tasty pastries
I live in the neighbourhood and have been coming to Caldense for over 15 years. The service is sometimes questionable and the food items can be underwhelming, but it’s convenient and I like supporting independent businesses. Today the server at the counter was unfriendly when I ordered a tea but I still left what amounted to a 40% tip. When I finished my cup of tea I went up to the counter to ask the same server for more hot water for my teapot. I was told they don’t offer refills, so she’d have to charge me. I was dumbfounded, never having seen any establishment charge a customer for more hot water for tea, but I said fine thinking maybe it would be a dollar. She then proceeds to charge me $2.55–the same price as the original cup of tea. I and the customer standing next to me were shocked. I responded by requesting a new tea bag as I was literally paying for another tea. I took the water back to my table and pocketed the tea bag. A short while later the server drops off the bill on my table without saying a word. When I’m done I leave $3 on the table with the bill. As I am halfway out the door I hear her yell out that I forgot to pay for the tea. I reply that I did not forget and had in fact left the money on the table. I then left without waiting for her response.
Listen, I know times are tough and margins are thin in the service industry, but come on. $2.55 for hot water AND bitchy service? No thanks. In future I’ll take my business elsewhere.

Really bad service. The girl didn't put any of the condiments she charged me extra for, then when I asked her to toast it as it was sold as a grilled sandwich she said there is a charge of $2 to put the sandwich in toaster. I am really disappointed with their service and quality of food. Will never dine in again

Disappointing Service and Questionable Pricing
My recent experience at Caldense Bakery was unfortunately very disappointing. My girlfriend and I were served by a woman with tattoos on her arm who was completely unwelcoming and unfriendly throughout the transaction.
Beyond the poor demeanor, I encountered two specific issues during payment. First, the register total was $19.33, but I was charged $19.35, which seems like a cash rounding fee applied to a card payment. Second, the server was intensely staring at the payment machine while I was finalizing the transaction, specifically appearing to monitor the tipping option rather than moving on to prepare the rest of our order. This made us feel completely uncomfortable and pressured.
We also noticed a distinct difference in the server's behavior; she was noticeably more friendly and engaging with other customers who appeared to be Portuguese, reinforcing the feeling that we were being treated differently due to our background.
Overall, the combination of uncomfortable pressure, an improper charge, and unprofessional service makes it difficult to recommend this location.

Not a great experience this morning. Was told that a double Americano to go was $1 more than the price on the menu behind the cash. I said that was strange and also I planned on having the coffee while I sat down. The $1 isn’t a huge issue but I was a bit annoyed that the price menu doesn’t indicate the actual price
Very disappointed. Bought a cake for my daughter’s birthday yesterday and was very dried as it wasn’t fresh. Never again.
Food ok. Customer service: negative. A lot of noise from kitchen.
Every time I come and try something, it's delicious. The service is very friendly, and the cappuccino is delicious. Today I bought sweet bread and one filled with ham and cheese—very delicious.
I found a hair in my breakfast sandwich, which is disturbing. When I reported it, the cashier offered a refund but short changed me. This level of hygiene and customer service is unacceptable. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Not great at all. No control over the line people just cutting ahead whenever they want. Dry, bland food. No seasoning or spreads on the sandwiches - I’m not sure why they even offer this menu.

We came in first then the lady keep passing us ,looks like we are invisible, I don't know why ,maybe because we are not white.
Best place for breakfast and coffee
Used to go to the Tim Hortons opposite to it but I realized that this is much better quality food, coffee and other drinks and nicer prices
Also they serve and sell very nice variety of bread and cakes. For bread, I would say one of the best in Toronto
Very very friendly staff
Very nice atmosphere where you can sit and see the world around you
