Loved my food. I got the butter chicken. It was so good I got one to go as well. My favorite dinner place in all of Portland. Thank you guys for the amazing food. I wish I lived closer. Have been going here for 11 years they have been open for 30 plus years and I think I know why. Great dessert too so don't skip dessert. I will be back again and again. Thanks again staff. Very friendly. Beautiful dishes amazing flavors.

horrible experience. decided to take out at 6:08pm today and the food was only ready at 8:03. Then we received our order and half of it was missing. This honestly ruined my night. Never recommending this place to anyone, never coming here again.

I've been coming here since I was a kid - it's the best Indian food in the Portland area! It's on the milder side, which I like, but every dish is packed with flavor, and the ambience is great and the staff are wonderful!

Went for lunch. 4 people-3 ordered the Chicken Thali lunch, I ordered the Malai Kofta thali dinner. I was told that the dinner thali was more expensive because the main course with the dinner was larger. That was fine. Their three meals arrived. We waited a moment for mine, but no one returned. They began eating. When they were over halfway through I caught the waitstaff’s attention. They informed me that mine was coming. My meal finally arrived as the others at the table were taking their finishing bites. No explanation of why my meal took so long or apology for serving them well before me. The main course serving bowl was slightly larger than the other 3. However, there were 3 small, lonely looking malai kofta floating in a bowl full of sauce. Their smaller, lunch bowls had been filled with sauce and heaped with chicken. To say that the extra $8 for the dinner thali was a rip off is an understatement. It had been a year since we had gone to Swagat, choosing other Indian places instead. We returned, hopeful that it was of the quality and serving sizes pre pandemic. Will we go back to Swagat? No.

I am born raised in India. I know what is true authenticity and good Indian food is. This may be Americans favorite Indian restaurant. Food has no taste to it. Not fresh. If you are looking for authentic Indian restaurant this is NOT the one. Another sign is you will hardly see any Indian revisting this restaurant. The table next to was another Indian family asking to bring the fresh food again as they were unhappy.Food was pathetic. Regret going there. Chef is most likely not an Indian. Waiter was Mexican who cannot communicate in English. Service was below average. Never coming or recommending anyone.I was invited by American friend based on number of reviews. You can look at the reviews all are non-Indians.

Fair Review

Upon entering the store, the absence of a warm welcome made us feel like unwanted guests, giving off an impression that we were perceived as cheap individuals who don't tip. Despite enduring poor service, we generously paid a 20% tip. The service itself was abysmal – an old man selectively inquired about the needs of neighboring tables, neglecting to check on us or anyone else. Notably, there was a lack of diversity among diners, making us question the authenticity of the food. The frozen and reheated quality of the dishes, particularly the small chicken pieces, suggested a less-than-fresh preparation. The frozen bread further underscored the lack of freshness. Suspicion arose as many displayed pictures seemed outdated or deceptive. I Ordering three different main plates based on seemingly positive reviews, we were left disappointed and skeptical of online reviews' credibility. Regrettably, we won't be returning and will approach Google reviews with caution, considering the possibility of purchased feedback. This critique is offered in the hope that improvements can be made rather than in defense of the service.
