Dinner was good. The outdoor space was nice. It seemed that takeout orders went out swiftly, while we did have to wait a bit. We didn't mind terribly, but it did make you question priority when at least 10 orders went out the door while we were waiting on service. But the waiter was nice, food was good and we enjoyed the outdoor eating space. Will return.
It was my first experience there today since I moved to Portland. I called and ordered. I ordered Chicken Tikka masala and Chicken Biriyani to go as it was Covid times. When ordering, I asked the girl on the phone if the food was enough for 2 people. She won't give me a straight answer and was trying to get me to order more! I found that very unhelpful and deceiving in nature. So I ordered a garlic naan anyways as I thought that I needed it.

Some dishes are very tasty, others not as much. Had the chicken Thali plate lunch and really liked it (good naan too). I miss the lunch buffet. It's cold in the restaurant (at least it has been the last three times I have gone). They seem to be short-staffed, and that means we had to wait quite a while for anything, including water.

Based on the reviews, Swagat Indian Cuisine offers a mix of great food and inconsistent service. The atmosphere is often described as great, even when every table is full. Many dishes are praised, including the lamb vindaloo, which was tender, spicy and delicious, and the CTM and Aloo gobi. The thali combo is a solid option, coming with a number of side dishes, rice, and a choice of naan bread. The goat curry is considered unmatched in the Portland metro area.
However, some reviews note that the food quality can decline, with one order of vegetable masala made from a frozen veggie mix. Customer service is sometimes subpar, especially for takeout orders, with long waits to get someone on the phone or for a cashier. On the other hand, staff are often friendly, attentive, and engaging, and one driver noted a staff member showed great heart by giving away a canceled order. The restaurant has since improved phone service and partnered with apps for easier ordering. Overall, it is a solid and affordable option for Indian cuisine.
