Olvi

Olvi Wine Bar • $$
1142 NW Galveston Ave, Bend

“Olvi is a thoughtfully curated addition to Bend’s dining and bar scene, offering an experience that feels both intimate and deliberate. The space itself is small and quaint, with only five to six tables inside complemented by bar seating, which creates a warm, conversational atmosphere rather than a crowded one. It is the kind of room that invites you to slow down, engage, and be present.

What truly sets Olvi apart is its close partnership with local wineries. Rather than simply pouring existing labels, Olvi collaborates directly with regional producers to create its own wines and vermouths. This approach gives the menu a sense of originality and place, and it is evident that a great deal of care goes into both the selection and the production of what is being served. The wine and vermouth program feels intentional, distinctive, and well aligned with the broader Central Oregon wine culture.

The food program centers on small plates, executed with restraint and precision. Oysters are a standout, with offerings sourced from both the East and West Coasts, allowing guests to compare styles and flavor profiles side by side. The menu is designed for sharing and exploration, making it well suited to casual grazing rather than a formal meal, while still maintaining a high level of quality.

Olvi excels as a pre-dinner stop or a first-date destination. The atmosphere is relaxed yet refined, the portions encourage conversation, and the setting never feels rushed. Service is consistently strong, with friendly, knowledgeable staff who strike the right balance between attentiveness and ease.

It is also worth noting that the owner of Olvi is the same operator behind the Flamingo Room and San Simon, both well-regarded establishments in Bend. That experience shows in the polish of the concept and the confidence of its execution.

Overall, Olvi is a well-considered, intimate spot that prioritizes craft, hospitality, and local partnership. It is a place designed for connection, whether that connection is with the food, the drink, or the person across the table.“

“I had THE most delicious birthday dinner I could ever ask for! We ordered the cheese plate for an appetizer and was not disappointed to say the very least. All of the cheese was so fresh and full of flavor! And the bread was some of the best I've had with a dinner since moving out West. It was so fluffy and baked to perfection. I ordered the lasagna for my entree and the portion was big enough for 2! It had the right amount of cheeses, sauce, and meats to ensure you get everything in each bite! For the dessert, I couldn't help but order the crème brûlée and oh my goodness, it was the best thing I've ever tasted! So light and rich in flavor. It was made with the utmost love and care. Thank you to the Blacksmith for such a lovely evening with friends!“

Burrito Hooch Mexican • $

“We went there for the first time today for breakfast. We were pleasantly surprised at how good it was! Their coffee is delicious and so is their food. I had the chilaquiles and my hubby had the huevos rancheros. The inside was nice but I think it would be more inviting to passerby's if they did something to doll up the outside in front. It is just dirt and weeds and you’d think it was unoccupied. Regardless of that we will be back to try more of their menu items.“

“I had the Hot & Sour soup and the Beef Chow Fun.

The Hot & Sour soup is weird. They clearly put Giardiniera in it (which is a pickled Italian vegetable blend). Strangely, the soup was sweet. Which was not what I was expecting from and Hot & SOUR soup. As far as soups go, it was pretty good. As far as Hot & Sour soup, it was a pretty poor experience.

The Beef Chow Fun was good. The flavor was excellent and the beef was tender. It had generous amounts of beef, so you aren't getting just a bunch of noodles and been sprouts/onions. My only gripe was that they seemed to just cut the beef in random sizes. Normally this isn't a problem but when you're using a wok (which is what it seems to be that they're using) it means that the smaller thinner pieces are way overcooked and the large pieces are cooked just right. It'd be nice if they sliced things in consistent pieces to avoid dried out small pieces.

All in all I'm coming back to try their other dishes. Considering the lack of good Chinese food places in the general area, I'd rate this one 4 out of 5.“

“I have visited this establishment several times a year. The atmosphere is friendly and attentive. The menu is good. The filet is excellent and the salads are great. There is outdoor dinning and indoor dinning. I do both. The grill has a beautiful interior, spacious tables are not packed together. Bar is divided by spacious booths and table seating very friendly and cool. This place is great as it allows you to come in with a suit or snow attire or a long sleeve tee. Everyone is respected. I actually bring my international friends to Gregs 2 or 3 times during their stay. Food is good/ great. People are kind/respectfull. It's clean and friendly. Staff , from the janitor (if I may) to the owner ( I have met) are kind and consider you priority.“
