In a town full of unnecessarily trendy, pretentious, overpriced restaurants - Shinsei stands out as a true example of a quality, consistent, and humble sushi joint.

I have been here dozens of times over the last decade, and the service is always great - as is the food. It’s not cheap (but fresh sushi really shouldn’t be in Central Oregon) but also not overpriced like other sushi restaurants in town, and I have never once been dissatisfied or had a bad meal here.

It’s honestly refreshing to eat somewhere that isn’t trying to be the “new cool spot”, they are established, and remind me of the cozy, small local family run sushi spots of my childhood.

Excellent service. Great atmosphere. Tempura wasn’t as crispy as I expected. Miso soup was top grade !

We love eating here and so do our 2 young kids. They are so sweet to our family. The food comes out SO quick, which is perfect for toddlers. The fish is fresh and well prepared. We’ve eaten sushi at the finest establishments on the west coast and in Japan, and sushi at Shinsei never disappoints. And again, the service is kind and thoughtful.

It was an experience of freshness and flavor we had never had before at a sushi restaurant, and the kindness of the staff made our time there comfortable and truly happy.

Visiting from nyc and I’ve had plenty of omakases before - the quality of fish here blew my mind. Stand outs were tuna (akami), salmon belly, and UNI. Outstanding service. Cant wait to come back next time in Bend

Try the whisky sour, it’s amazing. The rolls were on point as usual and their miso soup, it’s substantial, best in town.

This is one of the worst meals I’ve had in Bend in 8 years here. We shared a bento with chicken yakisoba and shrimp tempura sushi. The chicken was inedible and noodles tasted old. We also got a tuna sushi roll which had no flavor. It was odd for a sushi restaurant to have almost no options without fake krab in it. The quality of ingredients seemed low and flavor was lacking. I left with a stomachache.

I love eating here. Food is always good. Seems like we always come when there is some weird and loud disruption by other patrons but that's not the restaurants fault.

Best Hamachi Kama I’ve had. Do not miss the cucumber salad. The service staff(especially Hillary) are kind and attentive. Great place to have a special occasion meal. Sales rep, great lunch spot to impress clients
