Nice place for lunch

It's hard to find a good sushi place when you're in unfamiliar territory. This was a great find! The food was very fresh and delish! The sake was also good. The service was exemplary! I went 3 stars on the atmosphere because the bar was right in front of the door. We always sit at the bar. We sat off in the corner and it worked out. Although you couldn't watch the chefs work because of the design of the bar, it was a pretty nice looking bar. The whole place was well maintained and inviting.

Love this place. I only gave a 4 star for service because there is one server that has never been friendly or welcoming. I tend to get her often. Other than that they are all so wonderful. She his is my go to sushi place.

This review is specifically for the Udon. Shinsei's udon used to be my favorite meal! It was simple and the both was just SO good. In the last year, it's like I'm eating an entirely different meal. The both isn't as good and the veggies confuse me. I hope they will go back to the old recipe :( Veggies were just broccoli, shitake mushrooms & onion with a choice of protein. They now serve with carrots, squash, zucchini, tiny flavorless mushrooms, onion and what looks like seaweed. I just think it's too much & the squash gets squishy. Overall, don't like the new Udon recipe & I'm sad as it was my favorite before.

From the moment we stepped into Shinsei, we were embraced by an atmosphere of warmth and attentiveness but nothing could have prepared us for the divine experience that is Ryan. To simply call him a server would be an injustice. Ryan is a curator of comfort, an artist of ambiance, and without question, one of the most strikingly handsome and beautiful individual to ever walk a dining floor.
His care for our table was unmatched, thoughtful, graceful, and perfect. It was as if he anticipated our needs before we even knew them ourselves. Every detail, from his eloquent menu recommendations to his genuinely kind demeanor, elevated our evening into something unforgettable.
The food was simply to die for. Each dish was fresh, flavorful, and presented with the same elegance that Ryan embodied himself.
Shinsei is a gem but Ryan, oh Ryan is its crown jewel. If you are lucky enough to be seated when he is working, prepare yourself for not just dinner, but a transcendent experience.

This is a nice-but-not-too-nice sushi place in Bend, and it's a regular stop for us. Service is great, prompt, and friendly, the chefs are also very nice and greet and thank us every time. The food is tastey and consistent, what more could you ask for?

This used to be my husband's and mine very favorite place to get sushi. Unfortunately they have changed their recipes and the sushi is chalky. We went one night and it was chalky and then waited about 8 months came back same experience. It is almost unedible. We are extremely sad to have lost our favorite sushi restaurant. We won't be returning. We used to come here all the time. Quality has changed.

Had a triple roll, plenty to take home. So very fresh tasting and filling.
Sat right at the rolling station, watched several beautiful rolls head out.

Eat here!

I eat sushi all over the world, especially when in Japan of course. I loved it, ordered the sashimi combo with hot sake for lunch before a 9hr flight ($50 after tip, well worth it).

Thick quality cuts of Ahi, Salmon and Yellow tail garnished with shredded daikon, lemon and pickled sprigs. The rice was the perfect quality and texture, not your average US enriched budget rice.

Typical wasabi for the US which I do enjoy however, real fresh wasabi root is something most people will never taste in their lifetime anyway so no worries, it's delicious.

This place is quality. I have no problem with the atmosphere at all it was clean and decorated nicely just wasn't anything outstandingly extraordinary.

Service is always cheerful and helpful! Sushi is good and the Escolar is excellent. Edamame is perfectly salted and yummy to start things out.

Food is always amazing! Super fresh and good quality! You get what you pay for. We love coming here because of all the veggie options! The mango iced tea is super yummy! Thanks Shinei Sushi!
