The Bend Roots Festival held here on Friday night showcased the best of Bend! Three stages with local bands set the mood to enjoy the summer evening. The unique seating with comfy sofas and rustic picnic tables completed the scene making it delightful for me, my friends, and many others to enjoy the evening. I plan to visit again soon.
I've stayed at several hostels over the years and always had a great experience. unfortunately, my stay at Bunk and Brew in Bend was a disappointment. I opted for the women's dorm room. The room felt quite small for two sets of bunk beds. There were no chairs, no place to sit, no bedside table. All of that is not a big deal; however, the carpet was so filthy that I couldn't bring myself to place my bare feet on it. The upstairs has seven rooms each with multiple beds, yet there was only one toilet and one shower. The bathroom was dirty, the shower was covered in pink and black slime. There was an additional bathroom on the main floor where the common areas are located and was also dirty. The kitchen was dirty, food crumbs covered the counters, smears of food on the refrigerator, and the dishwashing station didn't look sanitary. It was hard to even get around in the kitchen as when I was there, it was filled with locals who I was made to believe just hang out there not paying for use of the facilities. On the good side, I had a great experience with the staff person Basil who checked me in and showed me around the property. There is a sauna house that was much cleaner than the main house. The patio area was nice, and I met some really cool people. In the end, I canceled my last two nights' reservation. I sent an email to the Bunk and Brew management to give them a chance to respond to my experience but to date have not had a response from them.
Completely run down area, no food truck or other activity on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.
Don’t get too excited. I went by today (Saturday)@6:20 and place was empty and shut down. Decent weather too.
Great spot and vibe but really disappointing that I had to ask 3 times (in front of multiple staff) over two days just to get a flickering light bulb replaced. It seems staff is a bit too lackadaisical. They also don’t respond to emails through contact form.
Always a Wonderful experience
Always a good time! The staff is friendly, the music is fun and varied, the beer selection is awesome and the food trucks are to die for! Definitely love spending time here!
Good food and beer! Enjoyed the live entertainment. Plenty of room and space to enjoy the fun atmosphere :)!
Bunk+Brew is such an amazing supporter of LOCAL live music. I love the open, outdoor atmosphere and the crowd has always been cool. You never know who you’ll meet or where they’re from. The staff that works at Old Ironwood Taps is awesome and they are integral to keeping the good vibes going. The food trucks too are amazing, especially Alebrije Oaxaca. Delicious! Bunk+Brew regularly hosts multiple musical performances a week, including local artists, open jam & open mic nights, and karaoke. Check them out; they’re a cultural staple of the Central Oregon music community.
Coolest hostel I've been to. Staff super friendly. There is a beer garden in back and a couple of food trucks, pool table in a tent and a SAUNA!! Only complaint is room with 4 bunks is quite small and beds are soft but lots of comfortable common spaces. They do have a couple of private rooms as well. Looking forward to going back!

Comfortable spot to hang out on couches by a fire with a beer and tacos. Did not enjoy all the crowd or staff the place attracts, I left when the conversation with staff and clientele around the firepit centered around unemployment insurance keeping people from working.
Great outdoor place to hang out, drink a beer, and have a bite to eat.
Bunk’N Brew was a fun place to stay as a group. We had the whole Annex building to ourselves. It was a cool facility that offered food trucks, laundry, and music at night. It is a great location to the city center. We could walk anywhere. We would recommend staying here as as solo traveler or as a group.
This is written by a middle aged woman who was talked into trying the place by her aging hippie friend - so please know that if youre <25 years old and youre surfing hostels, this may be fantastic. Everyone was extremely friendly, the food truck was literally AMAZING and the backyard beer truck courtyard was super cute. It was my first toe-dip into the world of hostels and I was honestly impressed by the staff and family-feeling connections many there had. If I was 22, I would have loved this place. If youre in that age range - ENJOY - It seems very safe and fun. However, for ANYONE like me who travels a lot and stays primarily in Marriott/Hilton chains, dont be confused or tempted by the great reviews. This is an old house, and although apparently kept very clean, it smells like the many less-than-clean people who visit. Some of the kids staying there were discussing living in their cars for weeks at a time - let me just say, there were odors... The bedroom was nice, the sheets were clean, but there was no escape from the smell of homeless people. I ended up leaving and am laying in a Marriott bed right now. My hippie friend however chose to stay there - she is having a blast. I assume she will pass out drunk and won't notice the smell until morning. I'm not fortunate enough to drink away my sense and prefer sleep. Old age I suppose - but whatever, I am showered and clean and am not sharing a toilet with 35 people I dont know. ?
They have a nice outdoor patio with a minimal beer selection and the ubiquitous taco truck. Honestly, it’s great if you are staying here, but more appealing for the 20 year olds. We just happened to drive by and thought we’d check it out. Tough competition in Bend.
