This is a Eugene classic. I’ve been eating Metropol for 36 years! Great business. Consistently excellent bakery.

This place is amazing. They've been in business for quite some time. I went into buy a bread, and came out with bread and cake, lots of cake. Couldn't wait to get home to taste them all. OMG. unbelievable. These are true old-world bakers. I'm now a regular. It's pretty busy and a bit slow but we'll worth the wait.

One of Eugene's great Bakeries ?

First of all we ordered the cake to say "happy birthday (name)" and they didn't put that on there but the cake was not good AT ALL anyway. THE MAIN reason for one star is because of the awful customer service. We went to pick up a order and the employees behind the counter (3) DID NOT GREET US OR EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE US. Not even "we will be right with you" not even a smile once. It took me to look at a man i could see in the back of the bakery to finally make eye contact with me and came from doing his job to help us(he was very helpful and nice) The front of the house employed never smiled, greeted or anything it took a man in the back to come help us. I'd Fire the three "gals" (whatever their pronouns) for absolutely TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Also thank you to that nice man he should be in front of the house. Train your front of staff better.

The staff here are very patient and hospitable. I work for Visiting Angels and was here with one of my clients, who moved slowly due to a neurological disease. The staff never rushed or patronized them. All of their baked goods were wonderful as well, especially the Opera Cookie.

I have been going there for 15 years and loved it. But since Covid it has went downhill fast . Hours change daily, can’t buy my bread on my way home from work because they always close on-a whim . Quality is gone . My prediction is they will be closed for good by spring.

Croissants were amazing and the danish blew us away. Wish we had something like this by our house in Maryland. Had a hard time finding a bakery that sold pastries but so happy we came across this shop. We stopped by about 9 am on a Sunday and it wasn’t busy at all so we got to sit down and enjoy our breakfast. Husband had a ham and cheese croissant and loved it. They also sell coffee, tea, bread, cakes, and cookies if that’s your thing and based on the items we ate I have to imagine they taste great as well.

The whole wheat walnut loaf (Tues/Thurs/Sat) is to die for, and the espresso drinks are consistently good.

Being a huge chocolate lover, I had to try their mocha, mousse, and chocolate croissant -- which were all very reasonably priced! The mocha was actually one of the best I've had in a while, their mocha sauce is rich but not too sweet. The croissant was delicious toasted, and the design on top is a nice touch. The mouse was light, texture was spot on, and none of the components are too overpowering. I can't wait to come back here and try some bread next!
