We had a late lunch around 2pm here on a Saturday after fishing near Hagg lake. We had a party of 9 and had a party room available that could fit us all together at one table. We appreciated being able to be seated together. They do charge a tip/service charge of 18% to use the room. We tried the chicken teriyaki don, katsu don, beef don, and salmon teriyaki don, oyakodon, as well as a salmon avocado roll. Everything was presented nicely and tasty. The dons included a small dish of soy based green beans. The one drawback was the kitchen was a little on the slow side, perhaps due to the time (2pm) we were being served.

We arrived before the dinner rush around 4p and watched the place fill up. The service was excellent and friendly. The food was very tasty. We sampled the HH menu and a bowl of tempura udon with an extra side of tempura.
Everything was delicious. The poke was very flavorful without being fishy or too heavily dressed. The rolls were nice, though I typically prefer nigiri/sashimi. Points for real crab & no Krab 🙌
The udon was perfectly chewy with a light broth.
I can't wait to go back!
Edit: less than a week later, we're back with friends. Unfortunately, the service was severely lacking from our first visit & server.
The food was still excellent but I'm glad I didn't receive this service the first time--i doubt I would have returned.
The Salmon (sashimi) donburi was very good. I'm picky about my salmon and it was perfect. The rice, however, was the star of the meal. They made the most perfect and delicious sushi rice I've had in years. It was sooooo good.
Excellent gluten free sushi rool

SaWa is my go-to restaurant in Forest Grove and Washington County. As a sushi fan for almost 50 years, SaWa is a treasure right here at home. The sushi is the best and the staff are great. They take great care with their customers. That they stock sake is a bonus.

easily the best sushi in Forest Grove! Not only that, they have a wide variety of other Japanese faire. The katsu curry is next level!
Out of the gate, the food and atmosphere made this place our goto family night out location… and they are super accommodating… we brought the family in shortly after one of our kids came back from oral surgery, and he was still having trouble opening his mouth wide enough for a whole piece of sushi, and the chef cut everything bite size for them!! ❤️
its the little things like that… that will keep us coming back to Sawa for years to come.

New review: It devastates me to have to retract most of my review… All of our favourite rolls went up heavily in price. The California Rolls alone went up by $4.50. Since this is upsetting and we’re no longer going to eat here anyways, I can say the staff lacks personality. No smiles, not very welcoming, the sushi is still good (at least I hope…), but absolutely not worth the price anymore.
Original review: Our favourite sushi place by far! Perfect size rolls, great taste, great price for good ingredients. I love that they use real crab, and you can see them making the sushi at register area!

The recipe has QR code for iPhone users. They use clover for electronic payment. Pay at register still available in the rear of restaurant. Real estate is kinda small yet customers come and go constantly. Not a bad place to hangout with friends.

Great approachable Japanese menu; plenty of options for lunch/dinner. Generous portion of curried pork katsu, served up quick. If I lived in the valley, this would be a regular stop.

Some of the best rice I’ve had at any sushi restaurant in Portland area. Well seasoned! Fish was tender and delicious. I love that they make donduri. If they only had salmon roe!

Went for our anniversary ❤️ It was a street market evening and though it was noisy and quiet busy outside the door, inside was peaceful and quiet. The server was attentive and receptive. The food was absolutely delicious and we will be back for more than a special day.

Picked up food to go. The environment looked intimate and the food was really good especially for the price. Prices are friendlier than Syun Izakaya but equally as good. I got the katsu don, salmon poke don and the omakase roll which were all very good and portions were generous.
The food, location, and staff were great. I fell in love with Japanese curry while in Japan. Some curry Tonkatsu sounded good and SaWa’s did not disappoint.
The sushi and sake were very good. Our server was very attentive and kind. Highly recommend.
