1 month ago I stopped in with my mom, the service by the older hunchback lady was terrible due to we arrived at 7:30 even though they advertise open until 8. The food portions were tiny and taste was subpar. Thinking it was a isolated event; my husband and I arrived at 7:30 tonight for supper and the large blonde lady was more rude than the other lady. I will never go back.

I had wanted to go to Haines Steak House for some time. It is an old rustic restaurant with lots of old Frontier, Pioneer, Rancher, Farm decorations and atmosphere. A bear rug on the south wall, a white buffalo head by the door and lots of mounted deer, elk etc., heads. We were greeted and seated immediately. We came on a Sunday afternoon about 2:00pm. The waitress was so friendly and attentive but didn't hover. The steak was delicious - a big juicy T-Bone/Porterhouse cooked to perfection and not too much salt! But the mashed potatoes and gravy were so salty I couldn't eat them (that's the reason for the 4.5 stars instead of 5). The salad bar was really good. They had nice fresh lettuce (not that bagged, rusty stuff), and other fresh veggies, many dressing choices and the 'salads" like potato and macaroni, weren't swimming in Mayonnaise. The price was $40 for a steak, 1 pass salad bar, cowboy bread (delicious!), salty potatoes and a half of an orange slice. No Cowboy Chili. I liked it but I probably won't be going there again - just can't afford $40 a plate dinner!Parking: There are some (5-6?) parking spaces in front of the restaurant but no designated parking lot but there is lots of free street parking in Haines.Kid-friendliness: I saw some young children.Wheelchair accessibility: Everything is flat so I don't know why a wheelchair couldn't access the restaurant.

I always enjoy going to the Haines Steakhouse for dinner. Tonight's dinner was to celebrate my husband on his birthday. The meal did not disappoint! Thank you!

Place is too expensive for the service. Facilities were a little too rustic for what they charge.

I am not one to leave a review often, but I feel this one is necessary in hopes that the owners and staff as well as future patrons know that there are some much needed improvements. I picked this restaurant for my husband’s birthday and it was sadly a very disappointing evening for our party of 8. We had reservations at 6:15..ordered by 6:35 and we were not served our dinner until 7:40. In the meantime one of our guests had ordered an all you can eat salad bar and the waitress came back and told us at 7:15 they were closing the salad bar and he’d need to go get another plate if he wanted more. (Very frustrating) we had to ask for water refills and gave up on asking for any soda refills. When dinner did finally arrive 2 of the 8 plates were cold to the touch and not one of us enjoyed our meal to the extent we had hoped for. The icing on the cake and the final straw was that at8 o’clock sharp they turned off the music playing, turned off some lights, and it became very obvious the gentleman was eyeballing us wanting us to leave so he could clear the table…we had seriously had our food for 20 minutes. Sadly, I will never return to this once ionic steakhouse.

10 star reviewI love being able to meet the owners and see a family ran business! We watched Lois going a million miles an hour ensuring things were up to snuff.I want to see local mom and pop restaurants like this go for hundreds of years because it’s unique, it’s a time capsule, and it’s a personal feel when you enter places like this.Thank you all so much. I look forward to coming back for years and years

11of us gathered at the Haines Steakhouse after a funeral as it was our deceased family members favorite place to eat. Our reservation was at 5:30. We did not get served until about 8:30. Every other table in the restaurant was served before we were. I had prime rib, which was over cooked and cold, and lobster, which was so over cooked it was like eating a rubber band. We all left early without finishing our meals. Terrible service, terrible food. Such a shame, used to be worth the price. Now is not worth going there at any price!Additionally, I find it very offensive the way owner responds to negative feedback. No excuses! Either take criticism seriously from your customers and improve or go out of business! Your responses are not appreciated and make you look ridiculous! Get a life!

We recently had a late lunch here after skiing at Anthony Lakes and it was fantastic! Our almost-6 year old loved the herd of stuffed critters and her popcorn shrimp. The bacon cheeseburger was 1 of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The salad bar is a tasty meal by itself and we look forward to coming back again soon! The staff was friendly and super helpful as always, and I love the classic Western components adorning the walls. The Haines Steak House is a local institution and we're stoked every time!

Folks, we've been eating here for years! Always the best! The prime is second to none! Always perfect. Perfectly cooked, the fat nicely melted never raw, the meat gently roasted to marbled perfection. Juice, tender melts in your mouth to the last scrumptious bite.Elegant salad bar with a beautiful assortment of dishes. Something to tempt every pallet. Sweet, savory, creamy and always with fresh fruit .Prime rib chili and cowboy bake beans. They say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"This is excellent family owned & operatored old fashioned steak house at it's finest.Wheelchair accessibility: It's level from sidewalk to dining. Plenty of room between tables to get around.

Very good food and service in an old West Wagon train environment. I ordered the 12 oz. Prime rib and was impressed with the serving size. The salad bar was very good also. We had a large group and our waitress handled it well, she was proficient and friendly! You won't leave hungry.

The atmosphere and the building is cool, and had some great music. Unfortunately wasn’t a big fan of the prime rib. My friend and I both ordered prime rib, myself rare and he got medium rare. They came out identical, so if they are not going to be cooked separately I would have rather been told how the entire cut had been prepared. Have heard good things from many people but on that particular night we did not feel it lived up to the hype.
