It was really hot, no circulation, and our server (blondie) gave bad service. We were being served slower than people who showed up 20+ minutes later. We watched a specific family be served by two different people while we waited for a refill on our water bottle. The water was also warm. We ordered a burger to go after our meal and waited 30 minutes for it.

The food was amazing and it was a perfect day to dine on the patio. Great music and service as well.

A nice, laid-back dinner to top off wine tastings with friends! I got the Albacore Tuna while my BFF got the Pork Chop…absolutely AMAZING flavor and taste! The tuna was gently seared and the veggies enhanced this amazing flavor to perfection — not too much…not too little amounts of rice/veggies to complement this dish! The service took a bit longer than expected, as we were there for just over 2 hours (an hour of waiting for our dinner after placing our orders — and it wasn’t really busy during 6pm on a Tuesday evening). But the vibes and smells coming from the open kitchen made up for it! (Side note, I did inform an employee twice to refill the restroom with toilet paper but he never did — I would say the housekeeping there needs to be a bit more attentive — overall clean restrooms though.) I would be interested in tasting other dishes from the menu if I was back in town in the future!

Ruddick and Wood was amazing. We came for lunch and we were so happy we did. My husband got the burger, which was so good and such a delicious take on a classic. I had the pork loin sandwich (out of my wheelhouse) and I was not disappointed. They use seasonal ingredients, they build your tip into the check to ensure their people get paid, and they have gorgeous huge bay windows in the front that open all the way up, so you can sit inside while feeling like you’re sitting outside. They also have really cool merch! 10/10 recommend. Go check them out!!

I’m a former server at Ruddick/Wood, I left because the owner Paul includes a mandatory 20% service charge on all checks. He found a legal loophole in it being worded as a “service charge” rather than a “gratuity” or a “tip”, thereby allowing him to skim 50% of this off the top before it enters a staff tip pool. He basically justifies this by claiming he uses it to help him pay employee wages (which is $15 for front of house and low-mid $20s for back of house). These are standard food service wages and ethically should not be paid for by a customer service charge, it is very misleading to customers and this should be the owners responsibility. Customers are never happy about the concept of being forced to tip, and even less happy when they find out half of it goes to the owner. I just wanted people to know what was going on here so they can make an informed decision on whether or not they want to support these ethics.
***it should be noted that if you add “additional gratuity” on top of the service charge, that does go straight to the tip pool***

On another note, the food is absolutely excellent. It’s very fresh, seasonal crops, and farm to table ingredients. Everything is made from scratch and Chef Kevin and the back of house team do an absolutely stellar job. So if Paul’s shady business practices don’t bother you then go stop in!

Great food and cool atmosphere. All the veggie dishes were very well executed. The fava bean falafels were beautifully cooked and delicious. Overall I would recommend if you are in the Newburg area!

My husband and I love Ruddick/Wood! We come from McMinnville every few weeks for their brunch, and have been in for their afternoon happy hour as well on a few occasions. The service is always friendly and helpful, and the food is delicious. While not cheap, it is my opinion that the quality of food and drinks match the price! A delightful date location.

My husband has a certified service dog and the cook would not allow us to eat in the restaurant

That is illegal, people with disabilities cannot be discriminated against

We reserved a table for a bachelorette party this weekend and were severely underwhelmed. We had just come from a local tasting room, were in no way intoxicated, and what seemed to be the manager came back after drink orders and told my friend he would not feel comfortable serving her a beer based on the way she walked in. The whole group was shocked, as none of us were inebriated and he chose to limit service to one individual? We’re a group of 30-something year old women ready for dinner, not a sorority house trying to get drunk. It put a huge damper on the rest of the dinner. The food was very overpriced for the quality and portions… my potatoes au gratin slice was smaller than a tortilla chip. My friend bread was so burnt it stunk up our room. Two stars I guess for the NY strip steak. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Do I need to ask when I walk into a restaurant, are you adding a 20% gratuity to our check for poor service? Apparently, you do here. Good luck to you, Paul. This is a poor business practice and why your establishment is empty on a Saturday night. I wish you the best. I would have tipped 25% even after poor service. I would have never written a review. Sad state of affairs. He doesn’t care.
