The food is such a beautiful marriage of unique flavors that are distinct in their own right but without competing with one another.
The staff is friendly, attentive and knowledgeable.
These two elements paired with a cozy, Turkish-inspired environment made for a delightful experience that was a welcomed departure from your average American dining!

Alma is a vibrant, hip & elegant restaurant with great food and fabulous service. All of the dishes were presented so beautifully. Our only critique was that several of the dishes were incredibly salty, but one of them was due to caviar/roe. All of the service staff were attentive, kind and enthusiastic about their care for fine dining, and it showed! We had a great experience and look forward to returning.

My friends took me here for my birthday last night and it was amazing!! Inventive menu (not to mention delicious) and the service was friendly and attentive. We were also blabbing the whole time, and the staff perfectly balanced taking excellent care of us while not making it feel intrusive at all! Highlights: baba ganoush, lamb shank, scallops, beet salad. Small plates are deceiving; we all left feeling completely satisfied. A really warm and inviting place, so special and affordable!

We were blown away by Alma. We went here for Portland Dining month and the curated pre fixe menu was the perfect opportunity to try several different options.
Every dish served was absolutely phenomenal. 8 dishes for $55 was a steal - we would have been happy to pay twice that for the quality of food.
Our favorites were the calamari (not included in the Portland Dining Month, but a must-add), the scallops, the beet insalata, the baba ganoush, and the lamb shank. Even the chocolate cardamom cake was delicious - and we never get dessert!
There were also so many dishes on the menu that were not included on Portland Dining Month, but sounded amazing and we can't wait to go back and try them.
I would recommend Alma to anyone! The food was outstanding and the service was wonderful. We'll be repeat customers for sure!

Actual tasting menu for Portland dinning month is very different from what was posted. Food was okay. But a lot of it lacked distinct flavors and textures that complimented instead of overriding each other. By far my favorite was the lam and the cake with the beet salad close behind. But as far as tasting menus go, it was okay. Maybe just not for me.

We ate here for Portland Dining month. The tasting menu was amazing, drinks were delicious, service was stellar, and the atmosphere was nice. Portland has so many amazing restaurants that a lot of times I say, “that was good but I don’t know if I will come back because there are so many other places to try”. Well Alma, you are an exception and we will be back! Thank you for a wonderful meal.

Alma was fantastic! It was our first visit there, as we wanted to try something new for our anniversary. We love exploring different ethnic cuisines, and Alma delivered an authentic southeastern European experience with a plethora of incredible flavors. From the cheeses to the smashed fried potatoes, and the Kanpachi Crudo to the Manilla clams, every dish was a delicious explosion of tastes. The service was excellent, and the ambiance was warm and inviting. We will definitely be returning!

The food was overpriced. The food was bland or at times over salted. The service was good however. But I was very disappointed. Everything was cooked well it just didn’t taste great. The exception being the baba and mackerel. We also ordered the “wild” mushrooms which didn’t have chanterelles per the menu description. Overall it was over priced and it was over priced.

The staff was helpful and offer complimentary tea as we looked over the menu. The food was delicious and was easily shareable around the table so we all got to pick different dishes and try different things

We had an amazing experience at Alma from start to finish. We arrived a little early for our 7:15 reservation and were seated immediately, which was a great first impression. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, and very welcoming, setting the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable evening. They even begin the experience with Turkish tea, which was a lovely and thoughtful touch.
The staff was genuinely friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome without being overbearing. Service was prompt and well-paced throughout the evening, and every dish we tried was absolutely delicious.
We opted for the Chef’s Tasting Menu, which consisted of seven courses with generous portions. Each dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor, showcasing a lot of creativity. The cocktails were also outstanding, well-balanced and thoughtfully crafted.
We had just gotten engaged earlier in the day, so celebrating such a meaningful moment here made the experience even more special. Overall, a fantastic dining experience. We would absolutely eat here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional meal in Portland.

Under seasoned, small portions…
Did I eat at the same restaurant as everyone else? $30 2oz portions of under seasoned protein with cold flat bread? Laughably small portions need to carry Michelin level flavor to justify their existence. Kanpachi crudo was bland and tiny, lamb kabob was tasty but under seasoned and small, the $28 lamb shank was the size of an appetizer at best. The clam dish was the most flavorful but served with cold pita bread. Alma will not last too long with this pricing. Vibey but disappointing at best

We got free potatoes!!! Just because there happened to be extra around. I dunno. I adored it. It set the whole tone.
Mtuma ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨
- I adored this
- we got this for free due to an accident
Roasted beet salata⭐⭐⭐⭐
- my boyfriend gave this a 5/5
- he liked the uniqueness, that it's not your typical beet salad
- I liked it but wish there was more blood orange to offset the sweetness
Imam bayildi⭐⭐⭐✨
- really good but prefer the baba ganoush for egg plant
Grilled mackerel ⭐⭐✨
- too oily and fishy for me, but I definitely need to acquire the taste
- my bf who grew up eating fish from the Baltic sea adored it, it reminded him of fermented fish
- I loved how crispy it was though
Kanpachi Crudo ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨
- the pomegranate was so smart
- like the sweet savory
❤️Baba ganoush⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- the best dish here.
