I’ll be honest: I love Break Bread’s sandwiches. The flavors are bold, the bread is fresh, and the combinations are next-level delicious. But…within 5 hours of every visit, my stomach begins a rapid descent into chaos. Diarrhea and cramps make their entrance, turning a satisfying meal into an unfortunate digestive marathon.
I’m writing this partly as a PSA, but also as a callout to others who may share this oddly specific, deliciously unfortunate experience. Break Bread fans with “iron stomachs”- you’re blessed. For the rest of us, let’s unite. Anyone else out there addicted to sandwiches that just don’t sit right?

Wow. I've lived in Portland for 15 years and this is definitely the best sandwich (Someone in the Blazers) I've ever had here. Maybe anywhere. I had jury duty today and when I texted my husband I have to go back to the courthouse tomorrow I said the silver lining was that I can eat another amazing sandwich and he replied "break bread?" and it turns out that's where he ate when he had jury duty last year and now that I think about it he's in trouble for not sharing it with me.

I had a Ham I Am sandwich, which was made fresh, and it simply was the best tasting sandwich I ever had. Unexpected, delicious!

I walked by this place earlier on my way to the post office and decided I'd pick up lunch here after dropping off a package.
There was something familiar about the name "Break Bread," but I couldn't put my finger on it. After looking them up later, it dawned on me; I had applied for a job here about five years ago when they were located in the Pearl District.
I applied through Craigslist, and via email, I was asked by Pierce to come in for a "work interview" on 4/20/2019 from 1pm - 2pm, time for which I was never paid. Not only is it unethical to take advantage of people in this way, but it is also illegal under Oregon law, something I wish I'd known at the time (I was not hired, never heard anything back from them).
By the way, the sandwich I ordered, the "Strami," was nothing special and not worth the inflated price I paid. Given my experience, had I immediately recognized this place (I was thrown off by the new location), I never would have stepped foot in here.

Best sandwiches I’ve ever had!! Perfect flavor and the bread is to die for!! Simply loved! I had the #1 and the husband had the CAR and they were both equally delicious ?

Amazing sandwiches every time!! Crispy bread, delicious combos, and super quick.
It’s a lot more cost effective to select one of their curated sandwiches than building your own.
I’ve tried their gluten free bread before and it was so good that I had to double check with them that it was indeed gluten free ?

Really good sandwiches from a club to veggie.
I enjoy making the BYO and get a little carried away, but it is so amazing. Flavors pop and you feel satisfied. Why get a Subway when you can get this. Recommended: I Try to be Vegetarian and The Fresh Prince. But I'm sure you can't go wrong with anything. Yum!
Vegetarian options: I feel it is very Vegetarian friendly.

I’m a huge turkey fan and got a #1. It was one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in a long time. The bread was soft inside and crispy outside. Perfect ratio of ingredients. The flavors were savory and delicious. I am so excited to come back to Portland just to try the “Someone on the blazers.” And on top of everything; the staff is the absolute sweetest. Go. Now!
