Another visit to Portland, another great vegan experience. Coming from a smaller town without a single vegan/vegetarian restaurant, it is such a pleasure to have not just vegan restaurant options but to be able to experience and enjoy vegan renditions of cuisines from around the world. Never having eaten Venezuelan food in general (let alone plant based), we didn't know what to expect. We got the carne asada patacone and the reina pepiada arepa which were both incredibly delicious (and came with a couple of maduros). We couldn't restrain ourselves enough to take a pic first, but trust me, it's so worth the trip! Additionally, they were really friendly and let us use the tupperware we brought instead of the to-go boxes and didn't look at me...

I was jumping for joy at the appropriately named El Salto (translation “the jump” or “somersault”). All vegan Venezuelan cuisine made fresh to order. Empanadas made of plantain dough and stuffed with house made vegan meats and cheese? Por supuesto! Arepas (think an open stuffed masa cake like a tamale) stuffed with avocado and vegan meats/cheese of your choosing? Delicious salsas and sides of plátanos… volveré muchas veces #Veganuary
