Guess we went on an off night, which was a Monday. Had 6 people for my birthday, two of which were visiting from out of town so it made it especially disappointing when our server was slow and inattentive. Food was lacking seasoning and the restaurant was too loud to have a conversation with the person across from you.
To be fair we were sat next to the kitchen, but overall a pretty bad experience, which really sucks, because I really did my research before making a selection. For $450+ you’d expect a little better.
This place was amazing and truly brought back memories of my time in Italy. The focus on authentic and delicious food really made the experience special.
Not gonna like, had a bit of a crush first time being there on the bartender haha 😀. It was a great spot, and I'd recommend you take a trip to Sellwood and checking this spot out
Amazing food, busy Friday night, and we couldn't have been happier. 8pm reservations were seated right on time.
Everything we ordered was amazing, but the pork ragu was the clear winner.
I can't recommend this more highly. I'd say I'll be back, but there are too many good places to try here in town...
Actually. I suppose if someone was visiting and demanded a sure thing for Italian then I probably would.
We had a great time at Gino’s! Food was excellent — we had the meatball appetizer, the cecear salad, chicken marsala, pasta ala vodka, and tiramisu. The entres weren’t exceptional, but the drinks and the other dishes were wonderful.
I did notice a one small thing while we were waiting for our table that made me go “huh”. One of the cooks kept handling ready to eat food (bread usually) with bare hands and then wiping his hands on his apron. He did that a couple times while we sat waiting. I’m sure that happens often in kitchens, but still.
The decor was a bit eclectic for my taste, and the booth seats weren’t very comfortable, but the staff were really friendly and helpful.
We would recommend this place to anyone, and we’ll certainly be back.
Heard this place was great on a Reddit post about the best Italian restaurants in Portland, so we decided to go here while my parents were visiting.
Service was slow for a Monday evening and not very personable. Atmosphere is nice, but super loud even when the dining room was half-empty. It's kind of compounded with the dishes clanging from near the kitchen. It sounds almost as if they're making an effort to be louder than necessary. Booth by the bar seemed quieter. Might just be an acoustics issue with the tall ceilings.
Food was... off. I can understand regional and traditional differences in the way certain dishes are cooked, but some simultaneous over/under seasoning brought all these dishes down. The filet mignon tasted overly of worcestershire, the cioppino was bland, the Sunday sauce tasted more like rosemary than tomato, and lastly the bolognese might as well of been nutmeg chili.
Disappointed. Not the worst dining experience I've ever had, but definitely won't be back.
Great garlicky Caesar salad!!!!!!!!!! served up by a great server in an interesting local venue.
This is the 1st time back at Ginos in at least 20 years ( lunch now available 7 days /week.--coming from Vancouver, lunch is my best option here👍👍👍 ) . My memories of the Caesar salad at Ginos was that the Caesar was one of the best ever. ...........I was not disappointed!!!!! Gino's Caesar salad is definitely one of the best ever. Fresh crisp salad mixed with a great generous GARLICKY Caesar dressing , excellent croutons and a generous sprinkling cheese all well mixed and served pleasingly cold.
The Italian sandwich was just OK with a too - bready roll and a funky tasting mayo spread that definitely downgraded this sandwich .
Service was engaging , efficient and friendly.
The vibe at Ginos is interesting in a good way . Sitting outside along the wall was comfortably shady on this hottest day of the year so far. The real treat would be to sit inside , to be able peruse and gawk the interesting wall decorations and furnishings throughout Gino's interior seating area..
Prices reasonable.
Streetside parking readily available.
Handicap doable and recommended.
Final take----- Recommended for the rocking Caesar salad and the excellent service.
Great place for dinner or just a drink. I do recommend reservations for dinner. Excellent food & drink, amazing staff.
Neighborhood institution, delivering quality food in a friendly environment. Busy on a Saturday evening!

Actually unbeatable Italian. Food, atmosphere and service all top notch. Get the cannoli’s for dessert, get appetizers, go all out- everything is worth it. Can’t wait to go back.

Food was absolutely bomb, tasty and the dessert was impeccable. My party had an amazing time with each others company and it was a nice time. However the server we had was a complete douchebag, I’ll just say it. He was rude, unpleasant, and avoided our table on purpose. I know that this is a hard time of year for people, especially servers and I know this man was in some sort of back pain from How he was walking so I get that.
But the vibe he gave off and gave to our table was just not it. He denied our table a simple request we’ve had before, and was just a dick honestly. The other food runners, servers and hosts were absolutely lovely and sweet. Some of the best hospitality I’ve had came from them.
However I wouldn’t want this server ever again. I would come back to this establishment and give it another go but I wouldn’t hope to have him again. I wish maybe someone in charge would’ve picked up on the fact he was super unpleasant this evening cause the energy he gave off wasn’t great and it didn’t take a genius to see that by looking at him. I hope the next experience I have at this restaurant is better.

My significant other brought me here for the first time and the food was excellent! We highly recommend the clams and be sure to order extra bread to dip into thd broth! The broth the clams come with should be declared a national treasure! We couldn't get enough of it.
I ordered the butternut squash and gorgonzola ravioli which was excellent and my partner ordered the pecchari was was equally good.
An online reservation will get you a table otherwise you're sitting at the bar top. A busy and bustling environment but the front of house staff are super pleasant and professional.
Simply put, if you are keto, paleo, trying to watch your calorie intake- this isn't your restaurant. If you carry a ridiculous high and unrealistic unspoken expectation of food service, this also is not your restaurant. The pasta is perfection. Stay home and create your own national treasure, and leave the staff alone, everyone works efficiently and are well spoken. The cooks are busting their butts to make your meal.
We will definitely be returning.
