Nearly everything at Grain & Gristle was perfect, and it was such a lovely experience. The French press coffee came with a timer, the chocolate madelaines were tender and gorgeous, the board with cheeses, fruit, a hard boiled egg, pastries, and meats was to die for. Great service!I'm only removing a star because I had the Only the Best-O and my partner had the Bowl with Puy lentils, and they were almost identical. Plus, half his veggies were burned (we're talking charcoal black carrots) and the white of my egg was mostly uncooked. Had we only ordered these, we would have been massively disappointed.Fortunately, we were with other people so got to taste a big variety of dishes. I will definitely go back but will be sure to favor the fresher options with salads rather than roasted vegetables.

Absolutely fabulous. We had 4 items off the menu and each one was wonderful in it's own way. If you want damn good, locally sourced food this is the place!

Fantastic!! My wife and I were in town for a comedy show and grabbed breakfast before leaving home and couldn’t be happier with our choice! Food was top shelf, all of the ingredients were fresh, their hot apple cider is the best I’ve ever had and my coffee came out in my own french press. Highly recommended!!

Took my mom here for her birthday brunch, which fell on Black Friday. Made a reservation, just in case. There were a couple tables available, but it’s a small joint. The food was amazing! I had the Reubenedict. It was glorious! Our server was wonderful. I’ll be back for sure!

Will definitely return. I went with some friends. We were supposed to share, but my dish, Summer Heat Benny, was so good I couldn't share. I also decided to try the Green Goblin, a green Bloody Mary which I normally avoid, but I sure did enjoy it. Normally, I review a lot of places by their drinks menu, but I didn't try too many. Next time I will definitely try the Early Bird.We also shared their pastry of the day which was a beautiful cinnamon roll that tasted even better than it looked

Great brunch spot with very friendly staff and fantastic brunch food. Everything has wonderful flavors and great presentation - I can’t stop thinking about their cinnamon roll with whipped cream cheese and eggs Benny with brioche toast. Definitely don’t miss out. Make a reservation if you can

It was a little out of the way from where we were staying. Our initial waitress obviously did not know much about the menu. She gave us incorrect responses to our questions. Upon entering we were asked in a rather abrupt way to show our vaccination cards - we all 6 had these, but it was not done in a very nice manner. Dinner was good - not great. I would not tell someone to waste their dining experience here, especially given the wait staff.

Brunch was great! The pastries were good, even if the price was a little high. The bacon and eggs were excellent - the bacon was not too crispy, which I prefer. Tasty mimosas. My friend loved the Benedict. Bonus points for being able to make a reservation.

Quaint NE Portland neighborhood restaurant with a unique brunch menu! The atmosphere was fun and the service good. I love to share plates and I got savory and sweet bites. The Cavendish is an amazing Nutella Stuffed French Toast with bananas cinnamon rum Carmel and hazelnuts! What a great dish to share. I also split a great burger that was so flavorful with very tasty pickles, blue cheese and bacon. I am definitely looking forward to another visit!

This place really blew mind. At first glance, a hole in the wall with craft beers and outside seating. Walk inside and the friendly staff immediately greeted me and my friend, and within a minute we were seated in a warm, gorgeous outdoor seating area, with a little fire and custom wooden tables. First cute points acquired. Our waiter, Chris, was extremely kind, swift, and knowledgeable about the entire menu. We had oysters and the pain du jour to start- with accoutrements. He brought out oysters that immediately took my mind away to the ocean. (Calgons?) I sat there dazed trying to comprehend what just happened between the oysters and house blueberry vinegar and my own face, when the board came out.Marconi almonds. Dates. 2 types of fresh warm bread in a special bag with a hot stone. 3 cheeses, each with a hot personality. Walnuts. House made pickles (cloves?!?! Woah.) Apple slices. Candied ginger. Sprouts. Radishes. Fancy butter (it tastes better because it's fancy).Just when I didn't think my brain could comprehend any further excellence, they bring out the blue cheese burger and side salad.Ladies and gentleworms. This was no ordinary burger. My friend and I split it, and as we bit into a half, paused. Utterly silent. Eyes wide. Brain lit up like the 4th of July. Not even chewing the second chew because we were trying to understand how. HOW.I can with full enthusiasm, confidence and sincerity say it was the BEST burger I have ever had in my 30+ years of life.I don't know how the salad tasted so rich, but it was nothing short of astonishing either. Radicchio, hardy greens sunflower shoots, and other no nonsense heavy hitters of the leafy plant world. Tossed and lying there on my plate, waiting to be experienced. We ended the night with a blood orange drink made with tequila and red. It was bold, bitter, and unapologetic. If I could give a restaurant a standing ovation, I would. This is a precious gem in the menagerie mines of PDX restaurants.Don't miss it. Take someone special. You both deserve it.

Tasty brunch in a relaxed small space. I got the hash which was really tasty but had quite a lot of oil in the bottom of the dish for the last several bites. Make sure to make reservations for brunch because they fill up fast!
